Hello my beloved fellow bipolar sufferers:

I'm not really superstitious, but I avoid cats in general. Either color.
Never cross under a ladder, because I'm afraid something will smash my head.
If my right hand itches, I close it. Just for fun. Nothing else.
When I see bird doo in my windshield, I don't jump with joy, but, ah, it's just ****.

It irritates me if I step on dog doo. But It means I'm lucky, right?.
I have a cow bell and a liberty bell. Also the one you tap on it. Ring 'em ring 'em all the time.
I have worn out horseshoe on top of the door from the garage to the house. and a used rail nail too. Just for kicks.

I carry my birthstone in the left pocket of my pants. Beautiful aquamarine.
The eye of Horus is on top of my desk. It's supposed to be a healer.

I have never denied anything to a woman. Pregnant or not. No pink eye for me.
I love houling to Mother Moon when she's full. Never brought me any disgrace. Only pleasure.

I eat my twelve grapes on NYD. And goat. Supposed to grow hair.
Always enter a room with the right foot. Instint, that's all.
I do the salt thing, if I spill some. Yeah.
I knock on wood (my head) often.
I'm not afraid of Fridays the 13. In my native land, it's Tuesday the bad 13.

When I go gambling, I have my nails done, and wear a lucky pinky ring.
I have a limit to lose and a limit to win. Per session.
If I win, I don't change my underwear until I lose. I do hand wash 'em sometimes, if the streak is long, and wear 'em again.

If I lose, the next session, I wear all the Orichas in the outside, and Orula's hand. (Santeria). Powerful company, sometimes. When you're going to lose, not even the Higher Power intervines. You're on your own.

Come to think of it, granted, I may be a little superstitious. Not extremely though.

How about yourself?.

Not especially superstitious. I don’t really believe in all that. My brother however is very superstitious when it comes to his football team. They won the Super Bowl this year for the first time ever (go eagles!) so he will be repeating everything he did last year like wearing a certain jersey on certain game days, flying his “lucky flag”, etc.

Not really but when I was working I believed like manty healthcare people that deaths occur in 3s and bizarre things happen at the full moon. That one was most true when I was working in psych but it happened everywhere.

I can second your sentiment. I worked in a liquor store for ten years during and after college and a full moon was always a bad sign. All the standard characters would come out of the woodwork. I recall the following -

-Someone pressed the silent alarm in the bathroom thinking it was an "air freshener".....about 40 cops showed up, one guy came in with a shotgun.
-Someone reached over the counter and tried to take money from the till. My boss Paul bundled him and there was a donnybrook in the aisle.
-Someone dumped their cans over the return counter and said "I ain't countin nuthin"! We called him "Drippy Nose" because he was always wiping his nose.
-Someone refused to leave the beer cooler because he "was hot".
-And the best of all - I was off this night, but one of my co-workers used to pack a gun at work (illegally in my state) and on this night, we got robbed. He came out of the back storeroom yelling "I'm sick of this s*** and started squeezing off shots. The robbers jumped right through the front window of the store, didn't even bother using the door. Classic stuff. Full moon fever.

I tend to believe in the full moon theory after having worked in psych, as well.

Otherwise, not superstitious.

No, I am not superstitious. I do believe the full moon affects things like behavior, number of visits the ER sees, and sleep (mine for sure) but for physical reasons, not superstitions.

I do have very good intuition; a lot of people have that though. There are things people (mostly projects my husband will start) that I know will not turn out from the beginning despite his confidence, high intelligence, and much beyond normal creativity, and I'm always right about that. I also knew when we said good-bye to my mother-in-law last August, it was going to be the last time we ever saw her alive because of her illness; my husband refused to believe it, but I was right.

Yes I admit I am superstitious. Very. It is linked to my tendancy to obsess over things. I likely am OCD.

My superstitions have nothing to do with the usual old wives' tales. But, I am very superstitious when it comes to behaviour and routine. The exclusion to this would be spilling salt and putting shoes on tables.

If I have an especially good day I try to copy cat what I had done in the days that follow - like the order I put clothes on, what route I took to walk the dog, and what my morning activities look like. If I had a bad day, I also think about that day's routine and how I might avoid redoing it. If I find myself out of requirement retracing that 'bad' routine I will panic.

not in the slightest

I personally don't believe in any of it- especially the whole thing about only listening to christmas music at christmas. I listen to it all year round, and it's sure not affected me

even friday the 13th.. sure bad things have happened to me on friday the 13th, but I put it down to bad luck more than anything else

I'm not very superstitious, but some do cross my mind occasionally. For example, at the grocery store I somehow always end up in the cashier line 13. I don't avoid it, but it is curious. Maybe many others avoid it so I go there since the line is always shorter.

One mildly compulsive thing I always do is to make sure the three pill boxes are upright and showing the days the right way in the larger box I store them in. Sometimes my husband puts his the wrong way. When I discover this, it really bothers me and I correct it. Deep down I know nothing bad will happen because of that, but I still don't like it.

WhooHOO! Go Eagles! They are my brother’s obsession, too! That game was AWESOME!
Okay, back to the topic at hand!

I’m not superstitious. I used to be! Black cats, Friday the 13th, umbrellas in the house, pennies on heads, all that good stuff. Over the last five-ish years I’ve managed to talk myself out of it. Now I’ll cross the path, celebrate the day, open them anywhere, and neglect those copper gems, all to prove a point.
I still think buckeyes and four-leaf clovers are cool, however!

I believe that superstition is too often linked to OCD. At least, it is in my superstitious OCD-infested Jewish family. Therefore, I do my best to discourage any superstitions I tend toward.

According to Kabbalah the number 13 is consider lucky, it has something to do with invoking the presence of God. I have absolutely no connection the 13 except that it's a number. I'm kind-of fond of it.

I'm fascinated by symbology, shrines, and such. Someone stuck a magnetic St. Jude on the pole facing my front door. I find that fascinating. I'm going to give him a new paint job...something florescent.

I love the moon, especially when it's full. And I'm quite sure that, just as the moon pulls the tides, it also effects other earthly activities.

I've been a witch in several past lives and a nun in some others.
I adore cats; my dearest, truest soul-mates have been black cats. Why on God's green earth would anyone attach anything negative to cats?

No, I am not superstitious. But I do recognize that I have inherited some specific powers, whether I like it or not.

Thank you all for your warm comments.

I hafta agree Mother Moon affects everything in Mother Earth. Tides, crops. etc.
We have had a few days of Pirilin houling at the Full Moon. Tonight included.

What a spectacle. No, not the moon, me houling my lungs out. Hehe.
Those who pay my rent, don't mind. Those who don't, don't count. Cheers.
