I'm currently taking 150mg. of Lamictal daily. It's helping me a lot with mood stabilization and probably with bipolar depression. I've been taking it before bed, but I see that some of you take Lamictal in the morning. Which time do you find most helpful; also, does taking Lamictal in the morning cause sleepiness?

I used to take it at night. Had no problems. Now I take it in the morning. Still have no problems. It's totally "sleep neutral" for me
Thanks for this!

When I used to take Lamictal, I took it in the morning. Didn't notice any side effects. It also didn't keep me out of the hospital. I did notice feeling a bit funky when I finally went off it because it flattened my mood all the time.

Used to take it in the morning, didn’t make me sleepy. Now I take it at night, doesn’t make me sleepy either. I think it has no sedation effect.

I started by taking it in the morning but it made me hazy and sleepy so my doctor had me switch it to the night and I had no problems with it after that. No sleep issues either.

I have been taking 100 mg of Lamictal for the last 7+ years in addition to other bipolar medications. I take it in the morning and it's just fine. Lamictal can be activating for me, but my other medications keep that in check. My evening meds, that include Seroquel XR, are much more sedating than my morning meds. In the morning, I take 600 mg Tegretol XR, the 100 mg Lamictal, a small dose Propranolol, Synthroid, and Ativan. Very often by midday my mood spikes up a bit, but my evening meds (that don't include Lamictal) calm that.

Okay, thank you each, very much. So it sounds like one of those meds that can be taken morning or night with no big difference.

Tecomsin, I had a major issue with Lamictal causing me to feel "flat". I told my pdoc I wanted to go off of it - could not live with the flat feeling. Not "would not", but could not. I was at 200 mg. We agreed to drop it to 150 mg. and that damned flat feeling did go away.

I take it first thing in the morning because it is just easiest to remember. It is right by my bed so as soon as I get up I see it. It hasn't changed my sleep patterns at all
