What is the appropriate way to change pdocs? I see mine next week and I want that to be the last time. Do I tell him at the appointment or call the office and tell them later? Then when is it okay to schedule an appointment with a new pdoc?

Since getting a new pdoc can be hard, and you may find yourself on a waiting list 3, 4, 6 months long, reschedule with the old doc at your next appointment. Call an make an appointment with a new pdoc but keep seeing the old doc until your appointment comes around. After you see the new doc, your care will technically be transferred, though of course, you might have to or want to sign medical release forms.
But don't cold turkey stop the old pdoc until you have the appointment scheduled with the new pdoc and know how long you will have to wait. It's worse to have no pdoc at all. I wouldn't mention changing doctors to him until you have an appointment set up with a new doc.

I also agree with Blueberrybook.
The only suggestion I might make? If you do feel a connection with your old pdoc, you may want to process terminating with him, which can take a couple of sessions. Yet, if you don't feel a connection, just find the new pdoc and tell your old pdoc when you have secured the next one! Oh, you may wish to meet with your new pdoc before terminating with the old pdoc? Does insurance allow this? I hope this goes smoothly for you and benefits you immensely! ![]() WC
