Had 14 ECT treatments. Didn't work. My boyfriend said do you like going to the doctors and getting all that attention? I should have dumped him right then and there. No I don't like the attention!!!!! I just want to feel Fcking NORMAL!!!! He is nice and kind and understanding 99.9 % of the time but he said it again tonight after I told him I had a cyst under my armpit asking why I'm not going to the doctor cuz it seems to him I go a lot but I don't. When you've had breast cancer you are more aware of your body. I had cyst under my right arm pit and had them removed because they were cancerous. I told him don't joke about this anymore. This is not a funny joke to me. We train people how to treat us. My ex was abusive. I'm trying to get well and fight for my life with this Bipolar depression crap. I'm angry right now and I needed to vent.!!!!!!Thank you to whoever reads or supports me.

Lynn

I find it frustrating and angry when my husband or father have made a joke of or used my diagnosis to insult me.
They will never understand or be able to put themselves in my shoes but similarly They too have their struggles which I will never understand.
But they are usually kind and supportive. The behaviour needs to be called out.
I have had many ECT’s and know that is no walk in the park!!!
I hope this offers you support and know that others are listening and have similar experiences.

Hi Lynn,

Each person has to set their own boundaries and this can be difficult for people who have been in abusive relationships either as children, adults or both. One way would be to pick a calm moment to talk with your partner about how you feel when he makes fun of you. Do you have a T you can talk with about how to put down boundaries here.

Of course you would be more sensitive to changes in your body once you have had a cancer diagnosis. I know that first hand.
