I have two post ideas so I'll just put them in one. Feel free to respond to just one.
I was having a stressful day and wanted to get out of the house so I went to a group I used to go to a year or so ago. Before I said anything one of the counselors said I looked unwell and another said he could tell I was off my meds. We discussed it further and decided I was paranoid and hallucinating, but not unsafe, manic, or depressed. The plan was to take my meds to a difference pharmacy, ask them if it's really Clozaril and try to move up my pdoc appointment, and go back to the group more frequently. But then after I asked myself if I trust the counselors or the "pharmacists" to be honest and I really don't, but what if they're right and I'm just being paranoid? How am I supposed to sort this out? Honestly I'd go to the ER to get another haldol shot before I take Clozaril from that pharmacy, but idk if you can just show up at the ER and say "hey, can I get some sort of PRN for hallucinations and go home? Preferably a shot so I don't leave, panic, and purge any pills?" Is that a thing you can do without being admitted? ---------- Also, I made a list of all the meds I've been on and their effect on me. I have responded well to a few antipsychotics but never had symptoms go away from mood stabilizers. Anyone else like this? It just seems kinda weird that bipolar is a "mood disorder" that in my case doesn't respond to mood stabilizers. |

Yes I have gotten a prn shot of haldol in the ER before. They held me for about an hour after I took it then they let me go home.

What did you tell them and what kind of symptoms were you having?

Bad depression and they didn't know what to do with me so they offered me haldol or geodon.

It would be good to call your psychiatrist and tell this story you wrote. Maybe do consider the ER.
My response to moodstabilizers, like Lithium and anticonvulsants, is not full either, though I do believe Lamictal is helpful for depression (but not my manias) and Tegretol XR got rid of musical hallucinations I once had for some months in the past. I have always needed at least one antipsychotic.Antipsychotics work best at preventing and extinguishing my manias. Seroquel XR is even helpful for my mixed episodes. |

I called and asked the receptionist to move up my appointment. My appointment originally scheduled for December 31 had to be rescheduled anyway (like every other appointment I have with him) is now on January 28. I want to do horrible things to that place, and frankly I don't know what to do. I don't think I can hide things from people much longer. I'm at the point where I tried to take my meds and panicked and threw up purposefully. Everyone at group yesterday said I was unwell but I'm in a pickle and I don't really trust anyone especially pharmacists, but I really don't want to go to the ER and them be like "yup, that's spikes, send her to the mental health unit for a few weeks." Because I really do not need inpatient, but I might by my appointment. I don't know what to do. What do I do?

Do you have an emergency psychiatric office in your area? They are less likely to hospitization you and more likely to have AP injectible on hand and write a scrip for APs. There's none where I live now but where I used to live had a psych ER they are less scared of mental disorders. But if you haven't got. One I'd seriously suggest a regular ER, just stay calm don't let them freak you out. Be honest tell em you need an emergency AP and that your going to a group and you do have a pdoc appointment but they rescheduled to the end of January and that's too long for you to go without treatment. Make it clear that the non medicine side is covered by the group you are attending and that all you need is an emergency shot of APs

I don't respond fully to mood stabilizers. I need the Seroquel to stop the manic symptoms.
I'm so sorry your appointment got rescheduled nearly a month later. That's awful! I'd be pissed and on the waiting list for another pdoc if you keep having to reschedule like that. I know you don't think so, but you sound like you really do need IP right now. ![]()

If you're not feeling well, spikes, I'd say just go to the hospital and ask for help. Your safety must be the priority. I know you've said you don't trust them, but I don't want you to be struggling if that's the alternative. Even if you decide not to go, please stay safe and take care of yourself. Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

Can’t get myself to go to the ER, but tomorrow I’m going to try to get myself into an IOP with a doctor. My family knows I’m off meds now and is making me go somewhere.

The doc started me on Trileptal 600mg, Zyprexa 15mg, and Remeron 7.5 or 15mg. I already took my night meds and I'm being watched so I don't barf it up. He doesn't do long acting shots, but suggested me bringing it up to my doc or trying to find someone who does them because I have a lot of trouble sticking to meds.
