I am about to apply for insurance on healthcare.gov and was wondering for all my Americans how much you pay a month. As well as how much you pay for doctor's visits and medication. I need to know which plan is best for bipolar.

$47 bimonthly, so... $94 a month.

My plan is PPO, which is why it's a bit expensive. I do have a $20 copay for doctor appts and I've gotten all medical procedures done at no cost. It's very nice. And meds cost me $15 or less.

I don't really need that expensive of a plan next year, except I'm planning on getting corrective nose surgery and I know that rhinoplasty can be expensive. I may also need another GI medical procedure. If it weren't for those two things, I'd probably go with my company's basic $30 a month plan and I'd be fine.

I pay about $275 per month for health insurance. My employer pays the other half. That's for me and my son.

My copays are 30/70/100 and 0 for ER because it's all deductible and then 20% after the deductible is met up to the out-of-pocket max. It has a $3000/$6000 deductible. However, mental health copays are different. My son's psych PA is free to me as was his T when he saw one.

Phamacy copays are 15/45/90. Ugh I am paying about $105/month for mine and my son's meds. It'd be $180 if Latuda didn't have their copay discount program.

Health insurance cost is ridiculous these days as if health care in general.

Depending on your income you could qualify for Medicaid the state funded insurance. That is what I am on, my monthly income cannot exceed $1,366 which it doesn't. The plan I have is full coverage 0 copays for doctors or prescriptions. I haven't used my new plan yet; but the one I have is top rated in my state. I also worked a lot with the company at my old job and they are very transparent which I like.

If I wanted to I could get on my work insurance which isn't bad. I would be paying $55 out of my check every month; if I stay within their group I would have a $20 copay, if I continued to see my doctor it would be $40 since he is not affiliated with their group. Specialists are $30 in group, $50 out of group. Mental health services of any kind are $20 across the board.

I don't know what my workplace covers with the pharmacy.

If you think you might qualify for Medicaid here is a good website documenting it by state A state-by-state guide to Medicaid: Do I qualify?

I pay nothing as I'm on SSDI and live well below the poverty limit. I have Medicade and Medicare which is 0 copayment but no vision, dental or hearing coverage and I pay twenty a month for my RX coverage which is well worth it as my meds are expensive. I have a 3.95 and a 8.95 copayment for meds but by March I no longer have to pay that as I've met the out of pocket limit.

I pay $134/mo. for Medicare and $15/mo. for Part D coverage. My meds are less than $40 for all my prescriptions (and I take four blood pressure medications in addition to my psych meds). I don't qualify for Medicaid because I'm at about 150% of poverty level, if you can believe that.

I pay less than $100 (not sure how much) for Medicare. I have medical, dental, vision and Rx coverage. It also comes with a free gym membership which is cool. I pay between $15-$40 for doctor’s visits.

I don't know why a lot of insurance companies don't offer free gym memberships. I think they should all offer memberships, for the sake of people's health. Like, it should be a standard across all insurance companies to offer memberships. Most able-bodied Americans don't exercise enough, but I guess that's just my opinion.

I agree. It seems like that would be a good investment as it would likely drive health care costs down.

I am disabled yet, am married. Our monthly cost is 360.00 per month, with a 3500.00 annual deductible. (Over $7k before we can access any benefits.)

This is with my H's employer, which is a huge fortune 500 company.

That’s a big chunk of change each month. Does that seem like highway robbery to you? It seems like a Fortune 500 Company would offer better insurance...deductible wise at least.

I think it's highway robbery!

The kicker on top of this is: single employees pay zero premiums. A married couple pays $360.00/month. So there is a marriage penalty and also a penalty to families. Yes, a huge Fortune 500 company should offer better and should not be penalizing both couples and families.

Thanks, Jennifer!

A $600.00/month spenddown?
Does she have other insurance?

Seems outrageous!

Just did open enrollment ... Mine will be about 210.00 a month for single coverage.

However, and this really blows my mind, when I see my psychologist (or any other mental health professional), it's covered at 100% with no co-pay or extra deductible!

I'm right proud of that because I remember all those times I didn't have insurance and had to piecemeal every bit of treatment I needed for my condition.

My husband pays 400/month through work. We each have 1000.00 deductible. Med copays are from mail order. I spend about 120.00 every three months. I get some meds through the Wal-Mart $4.00 program.

I pay 41 for insurance 0 copays and my prescriptions are super cheap. My income is low so it's reduced from 134 for medicare and 134 for additional insurance to cover prescriptions.

I’m on SSDI and so low income I do not have to pay my Medicare premium, I do have to pay out all the left over 20% which really adds up.

I work in health insurance and the price really depends on the plan you choose and if you qualify for the ACA subsidy. The subsidy is based on your income. PPO plans have a higher deductible which means your pay a lower premium each month but more for services. And with a PPO, your out of pocket is higher. As someone with bipolar, I would recommend an HMO plan in case you are hospitalized.

Hope this helps

I agree with you, Jenny. PPO plan does make them out of pocket rate higher. Even I was thinking to get a suitable Medicare insurance plan for my mother at best deals and luckily got to know about Humana and BCBS plan from The Health Exchange Agency. These plans also offer lower premiums and cover the maximum things. In my opinion, getting a clear view of the particular health insurance before buying can prevent a person from facing an unexpected situation in future.
