So I am starting a new job and I’m worried I’m gonna get sick again after my last episode my pdoc increased my lithium and added invega which is a anti psychotic. This will be the first time I’ve taken a anti psychotic with a mood stabilizer outside the hospital. How long have you all stayed stable on a mood stabilizer and a anti psychotic?

I have been stable over a year on a mood stabilizer, anti psychotic, and anti depressant.

I've been on various combinations of mood stabilisers and antipsychotics over the years but I was stable, though considerably depressed, for 5 years or so.

Hopefully you will stay stable but Bipolar meds can poop out and a episode can happen.

Even with the best self care Bipolar can pop up , I know people that have been stable for a few years so there’s hope for long term stability

I was stable for about 4 years when I was on that combo.

I had to stop due to an allergic reaction to the mood stabilizer that came on at the end of the four years, it was really strange and unfortunate.

Hi Goals2017! Though I can't say one way or another, if you are feeling balanced now, and practice healthy eating, exercise, and stress reduction, taking your meds as directed, and keeping your therapy/psychiatrist appointments, you have a strong chance of continuing to do well, though nothing is ever guaranteed.

A lot of us take antipsychotics permanently or almost permanently. There's nothing wrong with that. They can be the most effective antimanics. For me, Invega was an excellent antimanic.

A grand total of three weeks. Most antipsychotics give me adverse effects (joint stiffness, heart flutter so bad it wakes me up at 2am) but this one seems to work well. I can get out of bed now where I previously couldn't, so you'll get no complaints from me.

I've remained stable for months on my current cocktail, which includes two APs. YMMV. I usually have hypo/manic episodes in the spring and summer, and mild winter depression. I've been in remission since August, so I'm doing well.

I've been stable over a year. I don't count my depression as being unstable because its usually mild. But, its hard to know how stable I actually am because I've been out of work for quite some time. Adding stressors always increases the risk of episode with me.
Yeah antipsychotics suck. And people automatically think crazy when they hear the word. But, they can be life savers. Depending on your dosage, being on a low dose usually makes life more manageable.
