I don’t know what to think.

My therapist says that I’m paranoid and that my meds may make me “feel better since they have done so before.”

I told her that I was afraid of my pdoc trying to do me harm. I said that he and the front office staff are taking my information and giving it to the government. She asked why they would give my information, and I said, “I’m not sure, but I have this nagging feeling they’re up to no good.” Then she asked, “but what do you mean by ‘no good’? Is there something specific?” I said, “no, that’s the thing. I don’t know. I’m afraid of the unpredictable.”

She insisted that I should give the meds another thought. But the front desk came up with an excuse to get my information. They said, “we’ve moved to a new medical system. We’ll need your DOB as well as a new credit card to be put on file since they didn’t get transferred over.”

She also asked if the voices were back, but I said no because they haven’t been (which is true).

Do you think meds will help? I don’t know. It’s possible she’s conspiring against me.

I think it's just paranoia and the meds will help you.

I definitely think medications will help. As for the information the office requested, DOB, credit card (if that's how you pay), insurance info (if relevant), and even some other information (i.e. pharmacy name and phone number) is standard required info. If you wonder why they need particular info and what they do with it, do ask.

My therapists and psychiatrists are not allowed to share crucial information without a written consent to do so, by me.

Hi bluebicycle, I am sorry you are experiencing this fear. If you have taken the medication before, why not try it out and see if it helps? You can always stop them if you don't like the side effects. You can still make that choice and trying them does not mean you have to take them forever. My honest opinion is that it seems like paranoia from what you are saying.

I have not had full paranoia that I am aware of, but I do get these somewhat paranoid type thoughts and feelings related to my anxiety and probable OCD. It is quite scary, but something I am learning is thoughts and feelings do no always equal the reality of a situation. Usually I find my fear is based on something real, like someone perhaps was dishonest with me, and then my mind takes it to another catastrophic level. The lack of uncertainty is tough, but you can always get more information by trying the meds, seeing how you feel, and then reassessing the situation.

Can you look for a pdoc you trust? The pdoc is not allowed to share any of your information. They can't even tell anyone your a client there. I know it's hard to trust but try. Commit to 1 year of meds every day. If they don't work that's fine you don't have to take them anymore but give them a real try.

Hey Blue!

Glad to hear from you.

I am sorry you are going through this.

I agree with yellow_ fleurs in that you can try taking meds and that trial does not mean you are committed to taking them forever. You can see what happens when you take them and make a decision about continuing them.

I hope you will try the med(s) to see if they are helpful.

As always, thinking of you!

It must be frightening Blue. I agree with the others. Try your meds for a while and see if the fear goes away. It is EXTREMELY unlikely those professionals are conspiring against you. Ask them all the questions you need to. It might help you see more clearly about this. Take care. We are all here for you. Keep posting as you need/ want.

Whenever I have thoughts that people in my life are conspiring with the government against me, or thoughts of a similar ilk, that means I am getting ill again. Whether I would listen to anyone about it is a different question because I also tend to lose insight and stop believing I have a psychiatric disorder.

The dr and his front office are bound by HIPAA and possibly your state medical privacy law which restricts what they can share about you to pretty much nothing without your consent unless you are a danger or unless it falls under the TPO exception, TPO being Treatment, Payment, Operations. As has been mentioned above, if you pay them by credit card, they are entitled to having your credit card on file and that falls under the P part of TPO - they need to be able to run their business and the goal of their business is to treat your illness. I am sure that when you clear this paranoid period you yourself will easily see that. Give your medications a try!

I believe it is imperative to be compliant with your medication. And that means taking your meds and also being honest if you didnt. If you say you are taking them but really arent, the doctor will think they are the wrong ones and change them up. Have you ever had success taking medication?

Maybe the medication will help lessen this fear you’re living with. As the others have said, consider giving it a go for a while and monitor your side effects.
How are you feeling about it all today?
