Anybody take remeron? I just got prescribed it for anxiety and insomnia. I’m worried about sedation and weight gain as I’m also on seroquel.
I’m looking for other people’s experiences. Thanks

i take remeron everynight 30 mg. it is actually an antidepressant from a ways back. I don't see any weight gain and i am on 800 mg a day seroquel. you shouldn't get a hangover from it , it just helps you fall asleep. I have been on it so long that i don't even know if it helps me sleep anymore. But my doctor thinks its beneficial.
I wish you good luck with it.

I gained weight like crazy on Remeron. It's one of the worst antidepressants for this problem. That said, not everyone gains weight on it.

It was good for helping me fall asleep but not stay asleep. I also got an anti depressant effect the following day. I felt happier.

I have a ED and when I was full blown a IP Pdoc put me on it. I gained probably 15 lbs in 2 weeks, wasn’t eat but a apple and a cup of yougart a day only.

Needless to say I threw it in the garbage.

I really loved it. The higher the dose the less weight gain there is and the less sedation (but more antidepressant action). I've been on it a few times and after the first asked to just jump quickly to a higher dose to avoid weight gain although honestly I only gained 5 lbs. on 30 mgs.

I don't think this is scientifically possible but I really think it acted as a mild mood stabilizer for me during my last year of grad school. Things were coming undone and I think that remeron kept me together enough to function. When I stopped it I started having a lot more symptoms.

I thought it was a good drug but once I was diagnosed with bipolar it didn't work anymore with a 3rd or 4th trial of the drug.

I took it for a short period of time for sleep and then it stopped working completely. It was in 2012.

It worked for sleep and anxiety, but made me eat like a pig so I had to go off it.

I have never tried it, Fairy102, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice to give to you. Just remember that different meds have different effects on different people. I'd suggest to talk to your Pdoc about this and see how it goes from there, if you haven't already. Hopefully he/she will be able to help you. I feel like that's necessary when we're dealing with meds. I'm so sorry, I know it's hard. Please don't give up. I hope you'll feel better soon. Is there anything we can do to help you? Please let us know. Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

I've been on it almost a year. When i started it at 7.5m it was so sedating it literally floored me, like sleeping on the ground floored. It also increased appetite a bit. As I went up to 30m, all that went away. I asked my pdoc and he said that's very common. In fact he said people that do the small dose tend to have the sedation especially, and people that go to the max dose actually have no sedation at all. I cant say it has helped much with depression for me. I want to get off of it actually as i'm not sure its doing anything at this point.

I hated it. It is the only psych med I gained weight on. It got so bad, I started turning my eating disorder towards bulimia (this at a low normal weight). It helped me sleep, so-so. Trazodone, hydroxyzine, Seroquel all worked better for sleep. My issue with the weight gain was that I never felt full on that stuff, no matter how much I ate, and that is not a good situation for someone recovering from an eating disorder. I think I had less energy (was tired during the day). I remember being too tired to even go for a walk around 30 min. long. I know it didn't help with my depression because I was getting so upset at gaining weight and not being able to control my eating at all. But it's been ages since I took it last, maybe 15 years, so the details are fuzzy. Though I've told all my pdocs I will never take it again. If they prescribe it and if I actually got the prescription filled, they can be sure I'd just throw it away.

But, as others have said, it did help them.

I take the lowest dose available (7.5 mgs) for sleep. It does help but I've learned to not take it if I have to be up in the am for any reason. Makes me sleep half the day away. I was taking 15 mgs but it was too much. Haven't noticed any weight gain. Good luck.

I'm currently on 45mg Remeron and it works for sleep. But in terms of anxiety and mood, doesn't seem to make much difference for me.

When I was working with frail elderly people as a nurse, if they had weight loss and poor appetites I'd ask their doctors to prescribe Remeron. It has an off-label use as an appetite stimulant, and boy did it work! It also helped them sleep, and they did better mentally as well because it's an antidepressant and most of them had problems with depression...which usually caused them to eat poorly and have insomnia. A win-win-win all the way around for those it worked for. There were a few who didn't respond to this treatment, but for the most part people did very well.

I took Remeron for 7 years. It was the most effective antidepressant I've ever taken, but it caused non-stop hunger even after binge eating. One thing I remember about it is I never had any mania symptoms when I took it even at 30 or 45 mg. It seemed to stabilize mood rather than cause mania, which is unusual for an antidepressant. I haven't seen anything documented about that. When I finally switched to Zoloft because of the appetite symptoms, I began having all sorts of bipolar problems.
