first the confession ...

when I was little I had a " blankly " ... it relieved my stress ... and just felt good ... feeling the coolness of it ... just holding it ...

now the confession...

when I was bigger I have a " pillow " .... it relieves my stress ... it just feels good ... feeling the coolness of it ... just turning it over and over in my hands ...

I know it hurts no one and is super mild to what I could enjoy .... but it still feels wrong ...
I want to hide it and feel quilty ...

I really believe that " pillow " , could do as much for me as xanex ...

now the don't laugh question ... anybody else ... wanta confess .... or is it just me ....

ps; as I age it seems what matters to me becomes simpler and simpler ...

I don't have a pillow... or a blankly. But they sound like great ideas... sort-of makes me wish I had a teddy bear.

I don't have one specifically, but I do like to hug my pillow sometimes. They even make large pillows for that purpose. It seems perfectly natural to me to want something comforting to hold, it probably fills a biological need like cuddling something. I also enjoy wrapping myself up in a soft blanket and find it comforting.

I sleep with a stuffed pig every night and it goes everywhere with me (I also sleep with a real pig every night).

I’m 44 and I love my stuffies. I also have two stuffed turtles I sleep with.

Items that bring us comfort and support are nothing to laugh at or be ashamed of.

I have a little stuffed bunny rabbit named Puff because of his puffy white cottontail.

I Got him in (of all things) a cheeseburger happy meal 20 something years ago!

My "blankey" is in a drawer under my bed. I pull "him" (he's always been a he, I don't know why) out and rub him on my face sometimes but he's too fragile to sleep with or I most certainly would. Instead I'm very particular about pillows and pillowcases and even when I'm IP I take my own pillow or I can't sleep. I also have to have my weighted blanket and am worried about a vacation out of the country this summer where I'll have neither. At least the pillows won't be hospital pillows though.

Mine is a lot more weird than pillows, blankets and stuffed animals. I know of many people that have those as adults.

I have clothing. Specifically one black, comfy, loose dress with pockets I have had for a few years and a black toque that I just got in December. They both make me feel like I am more bad or scary than anything or anyone around me so its some sort of protection. When either of those is "missing" I have extreme anxiety about it and cannot stop thinking about it until it is found.

The odd thing is they both have associations with the worst times in my life. The dress I wore for an entire month straight when I had my first major episode which was a scary mixed episode with SI/HI. I literally only took it off at bedtime and to wash it once in a while when I was having a bath. The toque I just got the day of my last attempt before the compulsion hit me. Sometimes I will wear my toque all day and only take it off at bedtime.

I guess they gave me comfort during those horrible episodes so it makes some sense but the level of attachment is weird I think.

I can't speak to a specific blanket or stuffed animal that gives me comfort, but I find that I'll wrap myself up in my blankets from time to time, almost like swaddling clothes, and it offers me the same feeling of safety and security. I currently have no one in my life who would complain about me hogging the covers, so I'm not going to knock it either!

I have a lovely electric blanket that's very soft and of course, warm. I also have the quilt my husband's hospice facility gave me after he passed away that has never left my bed since that first night without him. It was the last thing that covered his body, and snuggling with it makes me feel as close to him as I'll ever be in this life.

I have a stuffed bear I sleep with every night. Can't sleep without him. I've slept with stuffed animals all my life. Nothing wrong with it. My baby blanket is in my closet. It's too fragile to sleep with.

I have a small stuffed shark, he's right above my pillow every night. I even take him in vacation with me. I may not touch him while on vacation but I feel so much better knowing he's there if I need him.

Thank you so much for making this thread, wiretwister! Thank you so much everyone for sharing your stories It's normal to have an object or more that can help us feel safer or bring us comfort. You're all definitely not alone in this. It's nothing to be ashamed of! What matters is that it bringrs you comfort and some joy. That's what matters. I have something similar as well. I have a little cord that I always bring with me. It makes me feel less stressed. Now you can all laugh at me Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. This is a really cute thread. Remember that there's nothing to be ashamed of! I'm sure everyone has one of these objects. Besides, there's nothing wrong with it. It gives you some comfort and some relief. That's what matters the most! Sending many hugs to everyone
