I have a few true friends I can count on no matter what. My husband is my best friend. I put him through a horrible Hell last year and he never faltered for a second. He is really incredible. I am so fortunate to have him in my life. I have two brothers. They are wonderfully different and my friendships are strong with both of them. Their support has been a critical part to my healing. My friends J, E, and K have also stood by me and offered unwavering support. I'd give anything for any of these people.
I am also reminded today that I've become great friends with my Dad. He is over for a visit this weekend and we spent last night playing pool, playing with my kids and laughing together. He and I stayed up after everyone else went to bed and we talked for a long time. He's a wonderful listener and offers me helpful advice and love. He is my father, but I can talk to him just like a best friend. He has seen me at my best and my worst and loves me through all of it. I also have a friend here I share with often. She's amazingly wise and supportive. We haven't been friends all that long, but I'd like to mention her because she means a lot to me and I appreciate her friendship. Good thread. It reminds me how blessed I am. |

I have my husband. He's the greatest person in the world to me. We have never ever questioned whether or not we would be together for the long haul. There was never a moment when I had to act in any way other than the true me.
I love my siblings, but wish we were even closer. We lost our mother over 13 years ago. There was never a mother that could be better than her. I'm sad to say the above is it. Maybe someday I will find a true friend other than the above. Of course I love my father, but he has never really been a true friend. I don't think to anyone, beyond superficially. I feel bad for him in a way. That doesn't mean that he doesn't love, though. |

Honestly, I am not sure I have any true friends. I have kept my depression a secret from my current friends (except those I met through the depression support group).

I have my man friend. He knows all about my illness and my breakdowns but still accepts me. He is my best friend now. I adore him! Of course, my mother and father tolerate me too. My mother is like a friend too, and I know she loves me despite her idiosyncrasies.

Besides family and bfs, no. Never had a true friend since 6th grade (11-12 years old) and now I'm 28. Though, I do talk to some people on this forum via text, but I figured you meant people you see face to face.
Long story short, people who I thought were my friends ended up stabbing me in the back, so now I just distance myself from people. I have trust issues because I was stabbed in the back by my 6th grade "friends," my 7th grade "friends," my 9th grade "friends," my college "friends," and my graduate school "friends." I don't mean to sound cocky, but I know I didn't do anything mean or deserving of being stabbed in the back. The 6th grade and 7th grade friends... The same girl who hated me was friends with both sets of friends and convinced them to stop being friends with me. Then in 9th grade (high school), I got into a verbal fight with some guy who initiated it over the fact I wouldn't give him something he wanted, so he told everyone I was a POS. Then in college, my "friends" just thought it was funny to PRETEND to be my friends because they wanted to mess with someone. And finally, in grad school, they stopped being my friend because of a project we worked on and we disagreed on something trivial. |
