Sorry about the rant. I’ve been reading a few posts which made me think of the lack of “help” in this forest irl (imho)

Feel free to ignore this post. It’s just a rant since no therapist irl will listen to me

One of the doctors, a GP, who I asked to refer me to therapy said no... and the reason she gave was that the treatment providers “catch” mental disorders from their patients. And this makes the treatment providers unhelpful.

This was over a year ago. Another GP just said “no”. A third GP threatened to refer me to the “mental health team” but said that therapy was “not a good idea”.. Why? Cost. Every life does not matter in this forest. (Irl) I find it dangerous, personally, consulting these people. Dangerous to my “sanity” and also dangerous to Papa bear as he becomes so distressed (this has happened over years...) At best they fob me off with “polite” lies. At worst they use scare tactics and abusive labels. They have made me doubt myself and even my “sanity” at times. This is a prehistoric forest I live in and not where most here are located.

If I tried to tell a professional in this forest this Truth they would likely just label me again (probably wrongly) and maybe try to force meds on me. I have already tried seroquel (I became allergic to it)

I have had a benzo refill. A doctor did not ask to speak to me (I’m grateful for that)..I might try to cut down on these as they give me rebound anxiety during the day. I think maybe they also affect my mood negatively.

I’m just trying to “get by” without help from the providers since all they offer is labels (or in an extreme case “hospital” . This has never been an option for me for a few reasons including having been abused by nurses in the past. And I also have 2 family members who are nurses who are abusers.

There is something very Wrong in this forest with how professionals are trained imho. They do not treat patients with respect. If someone has a mental health disorder, bipolar, CPTSD, severe depression, GAD, anything at all they are treated as less than the judging professional. Call me paranoid if you like, I am not.

Respect and kind thoughts to all

Hi Fuzzybear. I'm sorry you feel you are not being helped sufficiently. I'm a little confused what you mean by "labels", but I don't expect you to explain. I have to say that it is shocking that you have been treated by GPs that would seem so unprofessional. Such behavior that you describe is beyond curious, to me. I have, luckily, never encountered such a doctor. I thought I'd write that so you know that there are good caring and professional doctors out there. I hope you will find a good one soon.

Hugs

Thanks everyone. A therapist who discharged me said I could maybe find someone willing to help in a capital city. I did not have the funds for that as I had paid him so much.

In theory I could find one online now...

Labels are “diagnoses” that are imo inaccurate, they can be cruel and disparaging and some are not even in the current DSM or its equivalent. The doctor I mentioned who gave the reason of providers absorbing (“catching”) mental health disorders from their patients was the doctor who prescribed seroquel. She was kind with her words about me and tried to help, (within the constrictions of the beurocracy) but I did not believe her statement... it did indeed seem curious.

She had said I was “intelligent” but she did not credit me with the intelligence to easily notice her... half truths or untruths. There were more. But she did not harm me like a couple of other doctors did.

Thanks BirdDancer, I do believe there are good, caring and professional doctors out there. I haven’t found one in this forest. Apart from one psychiatrist who did listen and did not inaccurately diagnose me. But I only had one session/ appointment with him. He mostly saw people with severe psychosis, I think, which I did not have. But he did say that the label the GP had tried to slam me with was wrong.

hey there, Fuzzy!

I am sorry you've found your exchanges with doctors and mental health providers unhelpful.

I've been wondering if the number of sessions with a practitioner is limited in the UK?

Have you ever had a good relationship with a provider?

I have found good providers; however, not every one of them is great at their chosen profession.

Do you have access to a provider now, if you'd like to see one?

I am hopeful you will find a therapeutic relationship you'll find helpful to you.

If you are able to meet with someone, maybe give it some thought and list the attributes you might find helpful?

Love Ya, Dancing Bear!!!
