Are hallucinations common in those who have bipolar disorder? I have both symptoms of both mania and depression. They mostly come in mixed states however.

Yes, I think they can be in either state:

I've only had them in the manic state. But have read that they can occur during depressive cycles.

I have hallucinated during mania but when depressed I usually am just delusional. I would assume you could hallucinate in either state but I do also know many people don't know the exact definition of each word so just make sure you know what each is and the characteristics of each state. Good luck finding answers and hope I didn't offend you.

I have only hallucinated a few times, but they came at times when I was on very heavy medications. I hope, for your sake, that you are not on as heavy medications as I had to be. my thoughts and prayers are with you Geen.

To be perfectly honest I see the strangest things all the time. But then again I have a very creative mind. I'm kind of in the calm, blah phase between extreme's right now.
But I'm in agreement w/ everyone else.

I have, too. I've heard someone talking to me when there was nobody there- sometimes at night, sometimes in the day. It isn't scary, just odd.

i was told, by my pdoc, that i have had non-psychotic hallucinations. I'm really not sure what that is and I was hardly at my best at the time, but I think he was telling me it was a little abnormal but not pathological. I still hear people call my name or hear conversations that aren't happening and mistake common objects, like mailboxes, for people, but I don't think it's a big concern.

Oh well I do that all the time- mistake things for people! I didn't realize that was an issue. I am SURE I heard voices talking to me that were NOT in my head. They were hallucinations, to be sure, but they weren't the voice in my head, you know?
