At least, I haven't bought meat in about 8 years. I don't trust the stuff you buy in the store, but I trusted my ex and his family. I'll probably try vegetarianism since I haven't had meat other than fish in a month anyways.

Hello, FluffyDinosaur, thanks for letting me/us know what artificial meat is. That's very interesting indeed.

Yup — getting the cravings, I guess. A lot of people say the same. I guess it's the taste of what's familiar to you and what you've grown up on.

My spouse mentions his Dad's steaks and Grandmother's pies and starts drooling at the thought of a juicy pork slider so once he's in that mood, there's rarely any turning back for him.

Eat what works for you and for your body. Moderation is key, of course. Organic and free range meat would be something I'd advise most people who are on a mostly plant-based (not vegan diet) to equate for the loss of nutrients and hormone-filled industrial meat.

Thanks, cygne. Good response. I have been a vegetarian for so many years now that I don't get cravings for meat. But I do get cravings for sweets/sugary stuff, but that's diminishing. After I recovery from my next week's surgery, I will insist that my pdoc change two of my medicines that make me crave sugar and put on weight. I have put on 15 lbs since 2017 when I started one of those medications. I'm a bit ticked off at my doctor for putting me on a medication (really there are two of them) that put weight on me. She knows I want to stay thin. Lately she hasn't been very helpful. She says, "there are always tradeoffs." I would rather have an occasional depression and not put on weight.

MsMystery,

Paleo recipes and most healthy recipes you can find on MinimalistBaker are sugar-free (if you're interested in trying them out). Most sugar-free stuff on the market is made with artificial sweeteners, but some delish vegan treats call for medjool dates, bananas, or almond/coconut milk. I keep a batch of cheese'cake'cupcakes in the freezer at all times for when I get a sweet tooth, here's the recipe — hope you haven't got any nut allergies, though. Ugh.

Hi cygne, thanks for these recipes! I will try them out when I am in recovery from my surgery in a few weeks.

I have a recipe for vegan tapioca pudding. I make it in the microwave. Here's the recipe:

UNITS: US
INGREDIENTS
Nutrition
3 tablespoons minute tapioca, dry
2-3/4 cups tepid soy or almond milk, non-fat
1 tbsp white sugar or dextrose;/sucrose (I use dextrose/sucrose)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1-2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

I don't let the tapioca/milk mixture set for 5 minutes. I start it cooking in the microwave right away.

• Combine tapioca, TEPID milk & sugar in the largest glass microwave bowl and let sit for 5 minutes.
• Combine cornstarch & water in a small bowl. Set aside.
• Cook pudding mixture 6 minutes in microwave; stir with slotted spoon
• Continue to cook/stir for 2 minutes at a time until thickened. Check/lick on spoon while the mixture cooks to see how thick it gets.
• Gradually add/stir cornstarch mixture and continue boiling for 1 minute; stir; cook 1 more minute; stir.
• Remove from heat and add vanilla.
• Stir & allow to cool.
• Makes 6 1/2 cup servings.

Back when I was still having periods- before the Mirena IUD- I also used cloth pads or a menstrual cup.

I am a veggie. I had cholesterol issues and did not want to go on meds for it. So, many years ago I went veggie. Cholesterol is perfect now.
I cannot eat meat. It makes me feel like I am going to throw up.
But, this is a choice that is best for me, it does not mean that it is the best choice.
