Christmas Eve, my grown kids will not be coming this Christmas due to COVID, I caught a chill yesterday and can't shake it, aches and pains, cough, my parents and I cancelled Christmas dinner tomorrow because me and my aunt are sick (only the four of us for dinner) and I'm making dinner, so tomorrow I'll be watching movies on my couch wrapped in warm blankets, and have had a few glasses of whisky because what the f**k? Not going anywhere this evening or tomorrow. Got hypomanic a few days ago and focus is extremely difficult and overall seasonally depressed as I guess many of us are...anyway, will try not to drink tomorrow...try is not a good sign I hope you all have a very happy holiday season!

The hot mushroom soup mess I understand, the drinking I don't. I mean, in a sense I do...but, you know. It's not a wise idea to drown your sorrows in a bottle. Why? Because ultimately, you'll feel more depressed. I will assume that you don't want to feel more depressed.

I'm sorry you're sick. You need to take care of yourself, you know? Not abuse your poor body. The blanket on the couch and movies sounds divine. I will also be entirely alone tomorrow, watching movies (but I don't have a couch, so I have to sit in my desk chair - I envy you having a couch, that sounds so freaking comfortable).

I'll be checking in here, others will, I hope you do, too so we can say Hi to each other .

Hi Beth, I hope you are having a restful day. I've been sick all day, too tired to even watch TV. Just up now for some food now, then back to sleeping. Ended up not drinking too much last night and none today. Remembered why I'd stopped - thinking gets messy, do stupid things, and fall asleep. Why do that? Peace.

Thanks for this!

Hi wolftrap! I'm sorry you're so sick. Rest and all the sleep you can get. Yes, my day is being peaceful. It's raining, which is such a gift for this water-desperate land.

I'm genuinely happy to hear that you didn't drink much. I'm sure that took a lot of strength - and wisdom.

Take good care of yourself, my friend.

btw - here's a remedy I use if I have a cough (or sore throat). Brew hot tea, any kind, but herbal tastes best for this - then drop 2 cough drops into the hot tea. Stir them around until they melt. When you drink the cough drop tea it'll soothe your cough a bit.

Peace~

Glad your blip was just that--a blip. Do you do any recovery meetings like AA or SMARTRecovery?

Your remedy sounds great. I'll give it a try!

I once went to the local SMARTRecovery meeting, but as I walked up there was a group of guys smoking cigarettes who looked like survivors of hard living. I decided that I didn't want to share anything with them and left. My therapist and I agree that AA is not for me. So, I am not averse, I just haven't found anything. I really don't want to discuss my alcohol use with any addiction group as it is so intertwined with bipolar. So I talk with my therapist and psychiatrist. I feel like I'm on the right path. I've tried to stop in the past, but I never really wanted to do so. This time, I've made the decision to stop, something I've never done before.

I'm feeling much better today Beth. I made my folks the nice Christmas dinner I was going to make on Christmas day. We had a good time and ate too much

If you're interested in, SMART Recovery has a website with some resources. Worksheets, videos, and even a forum. I've never actually done a meeting, myself, but some of the worksheets and videos are really helpful.
