My psych says I'm having a mixed episode, which is new for me.

The weirdest thing is that I feel like something is behind me and I don't dare look back. It feels like a cloud of anxiety and depression. It's so weird. I'm afraid if I look back it will consume me. It's very distressing.

Is this a symptom of a mixed episode? It's unlike anything I've ever experienced. It seems like a cloud of doom and gloom threatening my sanity.

I don't know whether what you've described is part of a mixed episode, but I can tell you that I've had the same feeling. It's surely anxiety and depression.

When or how did the feeling go away?

I don't know for sure what's the cause, but I get similar things during mixed episodes sometimes. The feeling that there are evil presences around me. Sometimes they get so close it's like I can almost physically feel and see them. I anticipate seeing them but they don't quite materialize. It makes me afraid to turn my back, I keep looking around because the longer I don't look in a particular direction, the closer it feels like they're getting. Sometimes I also think I see stuff out of the corner of my eyes. Sometimes I get pretty paranoid and feel like there's people breaking into my house when I'm not there and messing with my meds. Just weird nondescript stuff. It seems to come and go on its own, I haven't found a way to control it. Presumably meds should help, if they're effective in fighting the episode, that is.

Usually when I increase or change medication, mostly an AP. Also, the feeling comes and goes on its own.

i am not sure what that may be since i have never experienced these episodes myself not really having bipolar. If they are bothering you much i'd suggest to contact your Pdoc and ask him/her. Otherwise perhaps just try to distract by watching some tv or something like that. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @imaginethat, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

That sounds awful. I'm sorry you've had those experiences. The things I sense behind me don't seem evil, just threatening.

Thanks @MickeyCheeky. I do need to talk to my pdoc about this. Gotta start making a list!

I'll mention this to my pdoc. I've begun taking a smidgen of Latuda to get me out of this mood, which I've taken in the past at higher dosages with no problem. Still it's something to talk to the doc about.

I had that happen to me in October 2015. I felt like I was living in a post apocalyptic world. Even though things were normal. I felt like my world was not real. It was very unsettling. I found out later it was derealization.

I don’t know if that’s what it is for you though but it sure is a freaky feeling.

I tend to experience something similar when I'm heading into psychosis (not to scare you) which can sometimes be from a mixed episode. It helps for me to draw it and come up with a story that makes it seem less threatening.

Oh, I'm great at coming up with stories. That's a great idea!

@Mountaindewed, it sure is freaky. That must have been a difficult time. How did you get out of it?

Things just started really turning around for me a couple months later in 2016 and I seemed to just get over it. I started losing weight and I got back to work. But 2015 was a worse year for me then 2020 was.
