RANT, VENTING, and anything else you can think of
am so angry I could chew nails and spit rust, we have a woman here in my city who is using " Bi-Polar " as her dx , she is on trial for the " Pizza Bomber ", and premeditated murder of past boyfriend, she was aquited (sp) from murder about 10 years ago cuz of dx, new Pdoc for criminal court says she is not Bi-Polar but has Personality disorder, I'm offended by the fact they say she is Bi-Polar, I'm Bi-polar and would NEVER do half of the things she has
if trigger is needed please do so
Angie

Nothemama, don't even compare yourself with such a person. Doesn't matter what their dx is or isn't, they're not "related" to you in any way, shape or form!

Perna said it.

She might be bipolar, but she's still a different person.. despite fo the dx.

I found it weird when my ex-friend (I think she was diagnosed with bipolar too) told me she didn't think I had bipolar because I wasn't like her. heh.

My friend who has bipolar is like me. They are really amazing and nice. He and I tend to be the same in some ways.

I know of another person who is bipolar and they are not very nice...

I think it depends on the person. Everyone is different. Mad as Blazes

Bi - Polar comes in all shapes and forms, and extremeties. I like to think I don't have it, until the mood swing hits. Then watch out world. I doubt I'm capable of physical violence though. It seems more and more defendants are using the not guility by mental disease or defect defense.

thanks everyone for responses, my main objection is the fact that she and her layer is trying to say her mental illness made her do these things, this offends me greatly

It offends me too!! Seems "bipolar" has become vogue, and I'm tired of it being used as the escape goat for so many crimes.
Media, and hollywood has made bipolar, the false excuse for many things. I'm sure that it really is not the true, DX of many. It's like saying, "the devil made me do it".

Some people who never claim responsibility for their actions seem to always place blame on anything or anyone other then themselves. Plus if blaming a violent crime on "having a mental illness" can reduce time in jail, get the person out of jail or just put into an asylum I think they will do what ever they can to try to prove it was due to the illness. The thing is having any mental illness affects everyone differently and it could be some of the reasoning behind some people doing terrible things but that does not mean everyone who has that mental illness will do those terrible things too.

I feel like people "cop out" under mental illness a lot, especially for criminal matters. I am new to mental illness myself and am working darn hard at keeping as active as I can at work and life in general. It's really hard, but I'm not quitting. I used to get so angry when I saw people try to use mental illness to explain their behaviors but then I realized that I can only be responsible for the image I project with my mental illness. I feel like it's my responsibility to project positively as a person living with bipolar disorder. So don't worry about it nothemama8. There's nothing you can do but conduct yourself in a positive way as someone with a mental illness and go from there. Don't sweat what others do because there's nothing you can do about them. Hope this helps.

What offends me is when they use Bi-polar as a defense for killing their kids, makes me INSANE. I know the disease differs for different people, and a person that kills their own child is definately ill. But come on! In the Andrea Yates case, where was her husband, he KNEW she was sick, KNEW what would happen if she stopped taking the meds to have another child yet he bares no responsibility. There is a case locally of a woman killing her toddler because the "Bible" told her so. Her legal defense... Bipolar.
