yes, i can have a short fuse and explosive anger if i'm too stressed or too tired. for me it's a hypo-manic state...like terribly agitated. when i'm like this i usually stay to myself, try not to drive the car too much, etc. if it's out of hand i call my pdoc or T.
if he just started his meds it'll take up to 28 days for the meds to completely kick into play. did your pdoc not explain this to you all? i can assure you after time the meds will help him a lot. sometimes they have to adjust the meds or try something new but i'd give it 3 weeks if he can manage that. don't know his age so it's hard to give any further info that might help.
if he's young tho, (15 or younger) i'd call his doc if these are recent since he started the meds. it could indicate he's not responding well to the meds or they're having an adverse affect. i'm no doc and there are pieces you left out that might have given me a better idea. if you feel like it, post more info here and we can try to help you all more.

I had a terrible time with anger. I got an assault charge on me for hitting a woman in a parking lot. I was full of rage that day. After that incident, my pdoc put me on Abilify and it really helped alot with my angry outburts and extreme irritability. I also seem to have calmed down much more since going to a therapist, too.
Thanks for this!

Same here!!!! I have been hospitalised due to rage attacks and I was put on anti-psychotics but I was dx borderline personalty disorder 15 years ago so that kind of explains that.

I had 7 years of CBT which helped and kept me from going to jail. After being dx bipolar in 2007 I have had one rage attack (luckily the people ran away and no one got hurt) just before Xmas 2008.

I can definitely handle my rage better as the rage attacks are now few and far between. Rage, once understood can be treated.

Good luck!

I would strongly suggest self-help strategies! Specifically learning the fantastic benefits of the techniques of DBT!!!(Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)
Yes it takes some work, but oh The Benefits!!! Amazing!!!

If you need help w/ this just let me know!!!

Glad to help Ginnie!!!!!

I have bipolar II and my brother has atypical bipolar. I tend to turn my anger inward towards myself. I'm not sure how old your son is... my brother is 19. He has very, very big anger issues, and for years it has been threatening to tear our family apart. Since your son just started, it may take a while for the meds to fully take effect. Therapy helps you to make important life and behavioral changes.

My brother's anger issues are still very strong, and a lot of that anger is caused by his frustration that his brain is working on maximum speed ALL the time. So I do understand... I'm here if you need to talk.
