Anybody here actually doing DBT? I spent 2-1/2 weeks at a Boston hospital getting DBT 3 years ago, and I didn't seem to get very much out of it. Probably my own fault. Just wondering how you're getting it and how much it's helping you.

I am doing DBT ~ It's been rather helpful to me. It has taken a while for me to implement the skills into my everyday life though. It isn't an overnight process! Not in my opinion, anyway.

There are lots of skills that can be used from the beginning, but it took a while for me to understand the general concept of these skills. It took even longer for me to get out of my habit of freaking out & actually trying the skills during times of high stress.

2 1/2 weeks isn't even close to the amount of time needed to begin grasping the concepts, in my humble opinion. Keep going ~ life will become easier as the skills are easier for you to recall. Best wishes to you!

DBT does work...I can attest to that, but it's one of those things that requires time to understand what you're supposed to be learning in the first place (at least a month or two) and lots and lots of practice for it to work. Knowing the concepts isn't enough; you have to incorporte them in to your life and your daily practice. If you keep at it it will help...

Well, DBT is not available anywhere in my area, so I'd have to do it on my own. I clicked on a website that somebody else posted, and it completely overwhelmed me. I don't know how I'm going to get help. I'm losing my T because of my BPD and am devastated. Can you say "abandoned again"?

Yahoo offers a few Yahoo class that's only one lesson a week and isn't too stressful. You can find it at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/dbtclass/.

Good luck with it.

I did DBT for 8 months, and plan on starting over to try and complete a year this time soon.
I found it extremely helpful. but it took me a few months to really start getting anything out of it. Partly because I found group awkward at first.
Best of luck.

I did a 10 week DBT group not too long ago. I was supposed to start another one next week, but work won't let me do that due to a crazy schedule. Anyway, I think DBT is hugely helpful. Instead of focusing on trying to change negative thoughts, which is all most traditional therapy does, this therapy tends to focus more on actually trying to change how you deal with things and how your mind works in general. I really loved it. You have to be ready to commit yourself to it though. Doing it with half of your effort will not be enough if you want the full benefit. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.
