I haven't been officially diagnosed, but was told by one mh worker I probably have this. (and severe anxiety, depression...) I'm sure there have been other questions similar to this at various times (even by me possibly). Have people, particularly in the UK, had positive experiences with health workers when they are being treated for this diagnosis? Thanks

I'm worried that if I'm more open at this point, more harm than good will be done. More than one friend of mine has been abandoned by a CPN just when they were beginning to trust them. So sorry for the "negativity" .. Just being honest

Hey Fuzzy! The mental health care I receive in my area is awful. My cpn signed me off as she put me forward for CBT and said I can't have a cpn and cbt at the same time. 1 year later I am still waiting for my cbt and have had no support since except from when I see my pdoc every 3 months. Luckily for me, I have been very well recently and haven't needed them but that's not the point, they don't know that and left me stranded.

Saying that Fuzzy, it might be different for you.

My mental health care is actually ok, It never used to be though until I was in a very bad place and got a CPN (who is great) Crisis team are another matter (Joke they are)
My CPN got me into therapy, I think it depends where about in the uk you live.

If you have a care coordinator (be it a social worker, CPN or qualified therapist), ask about the possibility of being referred to your local personality disorders team. These are usually the people best placed to offer a diagnosis. You may also need the backing of your consultant (usually the care coordinator acts as an intermediary) so i'm hoping you're on good terms with them also.

It took me nearly a year to beg to be referred to the PD team, once it was agreed i spent 10 weeks in assessment and once i was given the diagnosis i started DBT.

All i would say is do your research - and don't take no for an answer. If necessary, refer to the NICE guidelines and/or get involved with an advocacy agency who can speak on your behalf in appointments etc.

It appears you're already part of the social group i created for members who need support and guidance on UK mental health services. I encourage you to check back in with us for further support and to access some of the links listed there.

Very best of luck to you Fuzzybear

Fuzzy,
I will admit outright that I have not read all of your replies.
.
Let me say this....your recovery is up to you. Practice mindfulness and meditation with a passion, as though your life depends on it.....it truely does. Find a friend or two on PC or otherwise who you can confide in regardless of how gosh-darn hard that can be. Research how a diet and suppliments can make a difference and do them.
Don't allow your future in to the hands of "professionals". No one knows you as well as you. I've been in a situation for several years that I didn't have access to "professionals", and through trial and error as well as a possible issue with fast cycling bipolar in addition, I'm okay. It's hard.....can be very hard, but I've done okay, and you can too.

I don't check my PMs much anymore, but know that you're a friend, and I'll help if I can. You're not alone.

I know a lot of people on here will disagree with me....it's been hard, but it does work. I wish you nothing but the absolute best.
