I found out 2 days ago that 10% of my company will be jobless this coming week. I will find out on Wed Feb 4.

After so many hardships in my life, and so much hard work to get stronger and more resilient, I can say with confidence that I'm handling this much better than I would have otherwise.

In the past, I might have stocked up on red wine and sharpened my knife, but this time around, I'm just lifting heavier weights One of my foremost principles is "Do not lose your calm over something you cannot control.". I'm standing by it.

Wish me luck. In all honesty, my entire life depends on my job, not emotionally, but practically. If I lose my job, you might never hear from me again ... this is not to solicit pity from you (I have plenty of pity for myself), but it's a very practical decision I made many years ago, for reasons that haven't changed.

Thanks for reading

It is hard when companies have cutbacks...scary.

Keep working out, to stay healthy and keep your mind off the "what if's". Of course, there are a whole lot of healthy distraction activities to use. No point in going in too deeply with any one activity, right? Go for a healthy walk. Ride a bicycle. Create something artistic (taking photos, coloring, painting, drawing, zen, etc.). There are lots and lots of possibilities!

Gentle hugs and very best wishes to you.

That is actually a great suggestion ! Haven't done something artistic in a while now. Maybe I'll watch a sunset on the beach or something.

Thanks

Nowadays we are potentially all a few weeks away from redundancy. It is the new normal, and we have to prepare as best we can emotionally and financially.

Good luck.

Hi lilodian, wishing you lots of luck

But just remember there's a whole lot more to you/out there than a/any particular job if........OK??
You have been through and come through so much stuff, and it's not your job that's got you through that, it's YOU who's got you through that!!
And practical decisions years ago.........well however it may feel if it comes to it, you/your life/who you are deep down are very, very different from then........and you have us now
So lots of different practical decisions you can make with some support!!

And for right now..........really well done on taking this so well, and great principle there.......you keep standing by it
And keep rolling with those distractions, plenty of more positive stuff to think about and to do, right??

Hey Lilodian,

I am concerned for you. You have helped me so much through my darkness and I wish to help you is some way. I empathize greatly for your current circumstances. Job loss is often considered one of the main stressors for suicide and suicidal ideation. You are very aware of this being one of your major stressors - and I have no doubt in my mind that you can remain mindful of this and, "prepare," for the storm if it happens to come. The only thing you can do is your very best - and it sounds like you are remaining proactive and motivated despite any such, "what if," that may come to pass.

Just know that you are not alone. There are many unemployed people in the world. Up in Canada there has recently been major layoffs in the oil and gas industry. It's going to be an interesting year.

Please keep us updated!

Thanks,
HD

That is so sweet of you, shezbut You've made my day !!!

I'll find out about my job tomorrow. I think, subconsciously, I'm hoping to lose my job ... that'll bring about a certain end to all the misery.
