I've seen visual snow and have had unexplained tinnitus since as far as I remember.

I'm curious if there is any link to borderline personality disorder. If I literally see noise, hear noise (ringing), then perhaps my random emotions are just noisey too...

Sounds like a kundalini awakening. Nothing pathological about this. In fact, you might want to look into the manifestations of this phenomenon which can range from visual distortion, auditory and physical symptoms.

Perhaps you have Synaesthesia? It's an actual condition where people see sounds as colors.

I had a friend who has it at one time. He would tell me about how he saw different colors for different types of sounds and what not.

I kind of wish I had it because it sounds really cool

I have floaters too. Slapped my own face hard enough to dislodge some eye material and now I see a spot. Sometimes it looks like a fly flying around, then I blink and it's gone.

Long ago if i got to intense in thinking or whatever I would start to feel throbbing intense pressure in my throat or heart. It would get stronger and stronger. I would then start to see violet / purple images and streaks until it took over my entire vision. It would last maybe 5 minutes and fade away. I wonder if this somehow related. Haven't had one in years, thankfully. It's gets very painful in the throat and chest, a lot of pressure as if they're going to explode.

I have some kind of almost constant ringing in my ear but I'm not sure it's tinnitus. I actually like it, it's calming, it's like the sound of silence. The sound of the universe lol

I sometimes see sparks of light that look like fireflies. It lasts for a few seconds, then disappears.

Hi Pastel Kitten,

To you and everyone else who is seeing lights and spots, please get your eyes examined by a good retina doctor. If you have damaged Retinas you may be frightening close to losing some or all of your vision.

Little lights like sparkles/firelies/floaters can be caused by a lot of different things and does not imply that you are "frighteningly close" to losing your vision. Many people get "eye floaters", including my sister who has perfect vision. Doesn't mean that people shouldn't get there eyes checked regularly in general, though. I myself get the sparkly fireflies when I stand up or move around too fast, due to high blood pressure/arrhythmia, and lack of oxygen in my blood I believe since I have a habit of taking very shallow breaths and breath holding. I don't feel like I will pass out, but because I have passed out several times in my life from lack of oxygen to the brain I know it starts with the firefly like lights and then it quickly goes to very fuzzy and grainy vision, then everything gets darker and extra grainy, like everything starts getting a purply red hue and then I pass out. I also have tinnitus that is sometimes very loud or very quiet, and the sounds change a lot. Sometimes its buzzing, ringing, and then telephone ringing sounds.

The worst thing I experience is when I close my eyes, I often see geometric patterns and forms (thats not the bad part) but sometimes I have visual hallucinations of faces so clear and so solid that after they appear in my eyes when they are closed, they "burn" there like when you look into a light and close your eyes and you see the light burned into your vision for a short while. So then I have to stare at these really clear faces of strangers burned in my vision like a bright light. They just pop into my eyes randomly when I'm trying to go to sleep, and they surprise me and sometimes scare me lol. I have no idea what it is that causes that.

Well hey, I can only talk about what happened to me. I almost lost my vision in 1984. It was a terrifying experience. But you be sure not to get an exam, because every one gets floaters.

Come on, the last thing a BPD forum needs is more drama. Think about it.

I don't know anything about "visual snow" but I have been dealing with the tinnitus in my ears. It started after a bad infection in my ear (Left) and when there's sinus issues.
I've also read it can come from too much caffeine. Perhaps we need to drink more water. It seems to be getting better, but I still hearing it. Stress also seems to irritate it more. Lastly I've heard it's really a brain issues (not an anomaly) but it has been conditioned from other loud sounds like music, machines, loud experiences that affected the ear & brain. 🤷🏻*♀️I talked to a therapist about it (he does EMDR) he said he didn't have much success with helping others with the condition.

Yes I have both of these things especially while dissociating more.

The visual snow started when I was in therapy and it confused the f out of me, thought I was going blind at first but it hasn't progressed since then.

does this happen to you guys when your eyes are open or closed? When I see stars it's when my eyes are closed so I've wondered if it's dizziness or imagined of what.

Visual snow is a relatively rare condition due in part to many affected individuals not being aware they have it. It is the subtle perception of a “visible snow” over your entire field of vision.
