I have this awful neck pain all the time but today is worse. I had a bad car wreck about 5-6 years ago. And ever since then I have the worst pain in my neck. It starts at my left shoulder then radiates up my neck. I can hardley even sit here right now. I have tried tylenoyl heating pads ice packs and hot baths nothing helps. The doctor wo't do anythings for it. AHHHHH I wanna go back to bed today

Sorry to hear you're in such pain. Have x-rays showed any abnormality or is it muscular? Have you had physiotherapy? Try an epsom salt bath(2cups) and get one of those magic heating pads(the kind that have seeds in them) - this will provide moist heat which is better than dry heat. I think you should go to physio. and they can teach you how to do stretching exercises. I used to get terrible spasms in the trapezius muscle(between shoulder and neck - I would after applying moist heat sit in a kitchen chair and hold onto the seat with my hand and slowly stretch, tilting my head sideways until it is bearably painful - hold it for 30 sec. - then do the other side. You can also get one of those special pillows to be more comfortable at night. I hope you feel better soon.

I had a really similar pain for years after a bad fall down the stairs that gave me whiplash. Going to the chiropractor is what finally resolved it for me. Healing wishes to you.. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Thunderbear,
I'm sorry you're dealing with this neck pain. I, too, have pain in my neck and shoulder. In my case, it's from being hit by a car as a pedestrian in February. I saw a physical therapist, and I found that helpful. I learned some treatments I can do at home, like self-massage and others. There are some treatments they did at the physical therapist's office which really helped in my case, like traction, and we're trying to figure out ways to do that at home. Other things help me, too, like using ice packs (as opposed to heat). Everyone is different, and some people do better with ice rather than heat. If you haven't tried an ice pack yet, you might give it a try and see if it helps better. I don't know what your situation is, whether you've been to a doctor yet, or not. I hope that you've been able to get it checked out. I know some friends who have also seen acupuncturists and have had positive results for pain relief in some cases. I haven't tried it yet, but am contemplating it. Wishing you well, ErinBear

Dear Thunderbear,
Glad to hear you went to see the doctor. I have problems with the trapezius muscle too, along with other problems. It can be a troublemaker! I hope the doctor gave you some ideas that will help you. Wishing you better days ahead.... Take care, ErinBear

When they were looking for the cause of my migraines, they did a scan that included my neck.....said that I had at some time a whiplash & that there was severe damage to my neck & that I needed neck fusion...that was around 1999....only time I had even done anything to my neck was around 1971 when I was thrown over the head of a horse....didn't even know I had really been hurt, but I was never in a car accident. They did the fusion, but it didn't help the migraines even though it should have. I go to a wonderful pain specialist in Lexington The only one that was willing to continue the medication I was on in California....lucky me or I would have really been in a mess here.
Know how bad those back spasms can be thourh...after getting dumped off a horse this last spring, them finishing mowing my farm that afternoon, I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst back spasm. Be careful with those seed things though. I got one for my neck....put it away in a box when I wasn't using it & it was crwaling with larva when I got it out of the box.....eeewwwww..they were coming out of the seed things...must have had the eggs in there with the seed things. Sprayed it with bug spray put it back in the box & there were even more crawley things when I opened it up the next time....yuck. I have another one that is much better...has more herb things in it & also microwaves wet or dry.....but doesn't have the bug thing going on. Hope your pain is doing better now, Debbie
