I had a whole bottle of percocet that I had filled in early december and had not used. I went to get them today and they are gone. I feel horrid. My worst fear is that docs will think I took them! My friend's son has a big issue with these meds and snorting so I assume it's him but who would believe that I wasn't lying and seeking more drugs?

Big stuff for my brain to handle

UHOH!!My son stole a full bottle of wellbutrin one time, thinking he would sell them and make a buck... dunno if he was successful or not.....

I was fortunate enuf to have a friend who had been taking the same dosage and had stopped so she gave thm to me and I never had to talk to the doc about it.

Maybe your doc knows you well enuf to know you are telling the truth? Hopefully....

Wishing you the best....Faith

Well, now you know your meds aren't safe unless they're locked up. How many pills were there? If it's been a month, maybe you could have taken "enough" (or can "last" long enough) to need/want a refill? I get anxious about my asthma meds. I guess I'd be honest, make an appointment to talk with my doc and tell him what happened and ask his advice (other than locking up my meds from now on which I'd do for sure but I'd ask him "how" to do that too). I think if you're matter-of-fact about explaining as if you "expect" to be believed, not overly emotional, etc. I would expect most people who know me at all to help me. Call and explain you have a "problem" that needs to be discussed. The worst he can do is say "no" to more and then you're just in excrutiating pain for awhile longer (I know, not "funny"). But maybe, you can have a few suggestions if he appears to be "wavering" like writing a smaller perscription and making you come back sooner for a refill, etc.? I'm sure you're not the first patient he's had who has had this problem? You have integrity, ARE honest, bank/insist on it.

My 16 year old son once took a bottle of whiskey - I don't drink but I had bought it because I read somewhere that you could make a "hot toddy" and I had a terrible hacking cough. I took one little swig and that was enough for me. I found out later that he had removed the liquor and replaced it with water. You could have knocked me over with a feather - he did other stuff - but that one was new.

My point is that things do happen - when you talk to doc - you can tell him honestly what happened.... but I would lock up my meds and not tell anyone where the key is....

you can bet that I didn't furnish my son with any more "free" liquor. LOL

I appreciate the help. I really know in my heart it was my friend's son. The crappiest part is that I did not take them and it really makes me look bad. I know I should have locked them up. I find that an exhaustive pain but easier then this. I go to the pain clinic for the first time tomorrow so we shall see what happens there. One thing I had read on line is that in 30 years of practice not one patient complained of having blood pressure medicine missing, just narcotics. Hmm, like anyone who says that makes it up.

I once left my new bottle of pain meds in a hotel room and when I went back to get them, of course, they were long gone and certainly not in the lost and found.

I called my doc thinking he would suspect me of trying to get extras, but he was ok. He said he gives everybody one pass per year for a lost/flushed/stolen/spilled in the mud.. bottle, but if it happens again he raises the flag.

So, if it's the first time, maybe they won't treat you like a drug seeker. Especially, if you ask them for ways to help prevent that happening again. People love to tell you how they think they can help you do things better. (Even when you already know Missing drugs

Well, I went to the pain clinic today and got methadone and neurontin. The pain doc said that a report of stolen meds is a red flag for addiction and I really need to report it to the police. ARGGHHH. I pre-poured all of the meds for the next 7 days and went to lock the box and found the paddalock is missing so I will have to get a new one. I guess I will be making a complaint to the state police. I am feeling better now but man was my tush, hip, leg sore after that drive. The pain clinic pee-tests you and knows what levels should be in your system when. It makes me feel good because no matter what I do I always have a guilty conscience. It is left over from childhood abuse and not knowing when the bomb will drop.

I hope these meds help. I feel a little funny now, in a sick sense after the first methadone.

I hate that guilty conscious thing. I walk around stores with my hands/items I'm going to buy in full view, afraid someone might think I'm shoplifting :-)

Oh WW, I am so glad that your doc gave you more pain meds.
I am sorry your sons friend has a problem with pain meds. Is he getting any help for his problem? So many young ones are turning to drugs to dull the pain from their problems.
Anyways, I am glad everything turned out OK for you. I think you will like the effects that the methadone and neurontin have on your pain. I also take both of those and they seem to really help.
Good luck,
Hugs,
Linda
