i don't find it offensive at all, i thought it was funny when i first saw it. If someone were to act out thier *****y mood on the forum that would be offensive and inappropriate.

I'm not sure what I feel about it, which means there is some sort of question as to whether it is appropriate or not. I remember raising my eyebrows when I saw it, thinking "is this really necessary?"

i don't like it. To me, *****y is a 'swear word'.
If *****y is considered appropriate, wouldn't it also be appropriate to have a mood called F'd up. JMO. |

I find it offensive and sexist...no male would be said to be a ***** let alone *****y...
yep, asterisks replace the word... frankly, I think the pms mood is also tasteless where's the mood icon covering testosterone states of mind? bullish? full of BS? jmo, of course

I just think that the *****y mood icon is not needed on a site like this. I find it rude and immature. And the icon looks dark and evil.

Does not offend me at all. Long story short - having a conversation with my psychiatrist lately led to me saying, "But all my friends just call me a b****". His response, "Honey, for you b**** is an understatement".
True, how true. I am selective about being a b**** but with the right stimulus I can go from zero to b**** in six seconds. my two cents...

I would prefer it not to be there. When I see it - it makes me feel scared to respond to their post - worried I might be taken wrong. I do believe it's sexist though.

![]() ![]() However, Catherine has a point about "testosterone" states of mind. ![]() Maybe "level the playing field" on that? Men have their moods too. And hormones! LOL Regarding the PMS mood, men have their own "PMS" at certain ages. LOL ![]() P.S. I also don't always even notice someone's mood icon, and even if I do, that was just their mood at their LAST log-in. It could have changed or they forgot to change it. My 2 cents. ![]()

I find it sexist, as the term is not typically applied to males except when used in an attempt to be doubly derrogatory.

I am not offended by it at all. I actually think it's kind of cute...and can represent my moods more often than not.
Yes, it can be perceived as sexist, but so could the "sexy" mood. I would say that it depends on the intent of it's use. If it is meant in a malicious way, that is not appropriate and IS insulting and hurtful. If it is meant in jest and all parties are in agreement to it's use, I think it's okay. The more fuel we give to the misogynistic undertones/meanings of the word the bigger the fire will get. Take away the fuel and the fire will die. It's just a word....and it can only hurt you if you give it the power to do so. My opinion.... ![]()

Just wondering if this is a cultural thing. You see, in the UK the word 'B****' is a huge insult, infact I think there is only one worse that would apply to females only. To me it truly is a disgusting word. If someone is saying that they are '*****y' that really is awful. Being '*****y' is a purposeful behaviour of being mean and nasty. Why do we need anyone to be '*****y' here at PC?
Anyhow, thanks for all those that have voted so far and given your opinions on the matter. Whatever you decide I can live with, been here a long time ya know! ![]() Hugs all!

Pegs....
That's a good point you made. It could be a difference in the way each culture views or uses the word. I never knew that the UK viewed it as such an insult....but then again...I don't know much about the UK period. LOL!! ![]()

I'm in the UK and I don't find the word offensive. Without the y it can be an insult but with the y, to me, just means gossiping, whining. I think whether offense is taken is down to the individual as opposed to the nationality.

When I see the "Y" on it, I just think that their in a bad mood. To be quit honest, I have heard men being called the "B" word. I have got to admitt that when I first seen it, I laughed about it.
![]() Personally it doesn't offend me. I'm not affraid to approach someone with this mood. I do understand how this could scare someone off. Some people are really sensitive to that. I've got to say that I have had a few people on here snap at me with the happy mood. Pegasus, I will say for a man that it's really good that you hate the word. It tells me that you show a lot of respect for women. One thing that I will not tolerate is someone calling me a "B". ![]()

I agree with Pegasus - it could be cultural, generational or the way a person was raised. I would imagine younger women would be more accepting of the word and this isn't an insult at all - it's just they've been taught it's okay to be strong and associate the meaning to represent strength rather than the insulting term Pegasus described.
Many times men use the word because they don't like a woman who stands up for herself and is assertive - and usually women who don't mind calling themselves that word, do so as a way of disarming the harmful intent. Some women are comfortable with the word because it's their way of claiming the right that it's okay to be assertive like a man - rightly so. In fact I think Hilary Clinton said she didn't mind that someone called her that. I think the 'grumpy' mood would basically communicate the same for either sex. I think we would agree, it's fine if a woman wants to call herself that and far different if someone else calls her that. There's some very young women who jokingly call each other that. I'm also not comfortable because it is sexist regardless of intention. Would it be okay to put some sexist names for men up? I'm also pondering the PMS mood because yes it's mood related - but there's a medical reason for the mood fluctuations. So does that mean we should put a 'menopausal' one there?? Hmmmm I don't think there's any 1 opinion that's correct and we're all entitled to our own opinion. I still feel it intimidates me a little when I see it and they don't seem approachable. I also don't swear and that's another reason I'm not comfortable with it. I'm surprised at how the poll is turning out - I thought it would go the other way. BTW - how do you put up a POLL? I always wondered how many men vs women there are here at PC - I imagine more women.
