So what makes a post?
Some write long things and then some seems not to know what to write(Crew raises hand saying thats us ) then some say "I don't know what to say" then some gives a hug, so I guess what I am asking is what makes a Post and how short can it be. That way I could get lots of posts but of course I hardly ever say or write anything short. I am a long winded person....LOL Thank you guys, Crew

Hey Crew!
I haven't written long posts much, but I have written lots of short ones, some as small as just "thank you" and "welcome to PC"... So I guess anything we write in the threads is a post, whether a new thread or the responding post to any thread, all these qualify as a post! That's all...

A post is whatever you feel like writing at any given moment and time. Sometimes we feel like writing more than other times. Sometimes we have something to say or feel something that we want to share with others and sometimes we are unable to post for what ever reason. Maybe what was posted hit us a hard way and really touched us that we can not really say anything at the moment so we give a hug or tell them we are unsure what to say but we wanted them to know that we read and are there for them. Sometimes we may not be able to fully relate but we want them to know that we are here to listen and that they are worth being heard and we are validating their feelings. There is no amount that constitutes whether a post is a post. There is no set amount or not amount that you have to post. You post what you feel like you want to or that you can. Sometimes just posting a hug means so much as it lets you now that you are not alone and others are reading. Sometimes I read and cannot at the time post. So I send a hug and just let them know that I care. If I can later go back and post something I will but sometimes it is all I can do. For me it is not the number of posts or the length of post. It is the fact that you answer no matter the length or words. Sometimes I get wordy but I write from my heart because I care. Each person is different and at one time they feel something that they may not feel another time or something could be going on at that moment that they cannot post. I think you are over thinking this as a post is a post. And what you write to someone is okay as long as it is supportive and done in a caring way, following the guidelines. Sending gentle hugs and loving thoughts. Always. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() dps ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey Crew, There is no specific definition for what constitutes a post. It is what it is. Sometimes members have lots to say, sometimes they don't but like others to know they are reading and caring so they post a hug or a short one liner. There should be no competition as to what is posted or what is said, how deeply we post or how superficially. This is a mental health website and we need to remember that at any given time, our members can be doing well, fairly well or not well at all. We all have our own interests as well. Some only post in the forums they most likely identify with, some are all over the boards. As with any community, online or IRL, we are all different and we all do what we can when we can. We have members who have been here for many years, yet they may not have a lot of posts. We have members that have been here a relatively short period of time and have many posts. Hope that helps you. Take care! ![]() sabby |

I feel that content is what constitutes a post. Whether the poster is conveying information or sympathy or just a friendly greeting; they are sharing that with the community and thus it constitutes a valid and important post. It's not so much about how long it is (I take forever to say anything but that doesn't mean my post has more content than someone who can sum up their thoughts better); it's about what's being conveyed and the feelings and ideas behind the post.

You can write a post about anything you want and however long or short it is, is up to you. It all depends on what you have to say. Most of my posts are short and sweet. I have a hard time reading long posts because of my ADHD. So, I try to be as short as possible for others.

![]() I don't mind long posts; they are difficult to read and garner content if they aren't broken into many paragraphs. Paragraphs that are longer than 4 or 5 sentences are also tedious to read online, for me. I find paragraphs of 3 sentences are easiest to read and keep content in mind. ![]() I think members here often want to respond, but don't really know what to say ... and that's what they can say! "I'm reading, and care but don't know what else to say." ![]()
