I have notice that YOU have been searching the Internet for INFO on GPS, therefore, I would like to ask if you wouldn't mind checking this GPS device out that I am thinking about getting my husband for Christmas (for his job - he travels a lot)?

Please let me know what YOU think about the GPS device overall & for the price?

Thanks....

What I decided I want is something compact but with a large enough view screen for easy following, also I want audio with it, and automatic updating of maps. I prefer the real life look of streets, rather than the map views. I want something small enough that if I need it for walking in a strange town, or even something to give me coordinates say if I'm on a boat... yeah.

QVC also carries some GPS. (their items are usually better for some reason, not outdated, not picked through and returned broken. I don't have good success with HSN though my mom does.)http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx?a...DATA^nullempty

Garmin and Magellan are really the leaders in GPS technology. http://www.garmin.com/products/index.jsp

Here's a site where you can really look them all over. http://www.thegpsstore.com/

I'm sure he'll be happy! Look for ease of installation and removal, as you can't leave them in the car if they're portable. ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device

Thanks for the reply........
I have to go out shopping for a little bit, but I will check out the links when I get back.

In the mean time - if you do not mind - might YOU post a link or two to a GPS that YOU would recommended (since you have been researching them) and have more exp with whats good in a GPS than I do?

BTW - I am trying to find a GPS that does not cost more than $400.

Thanks....

I can't make up my own mind and you want me to make up yours?? ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device That's why I haven't bought one yet!!!

Ok... for your price range...

What you also NEED is a lit screen, or you can't see it in the dark! Anti glare is nice too... long lasting rechargable batteries... but about 3 hours is all I can find on this price point. Some have 6 or 8 which, as I get lost in a city, is what I would need (say I wasn't in a vehicle.)

http://www.magellangps.com/products/....asp?segID=354 Look at this one and see how it compares. That you can add your own addresses is nice. It also provides phone numbers of destination sites, so you can call them ahead of time.

Alerts for when you are nearing your destination, or for items such as school zones and security cameras are kewl too.

You do realize you need to sign up and pay for activation, right?

If you can go a bit higher in price, look at the StreetPilot C330. At least you can see some of the things you might want. Not knowing what's available means you might not get what you need (like the hsn product?) To determine the features of the HSN products, you need to call them and ask for all the details. What they are displaying in the ad is not enough info, for me. ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device

I knew there was something that needed to be done with the activation, but I was not for sure
if it was a one time thing or if it is a monthly thing..... (do YOU know), but in the end hubby wants it for work so I was buying it for him.

It's a monthly fee from what I understand. There are simpler (monochromatic) GPS ..handheld for hiking etc that do not require a service fee, the satellite that feeds it, is free.

Now, that means there should be some that use the basic GPS satellite (no charge) and the maps are loaded into the unit, but not updated through a service. I think that some of the satellites quit scrambling the data, so it can be picked up without going through a service ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device

OH! I used to subscribe to PC Magazine (when it was ONLY computers ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device) thanks for reminding me it's on the web ATTENTION SKY!!! Question on GPS Device Is it a Garmin or a Magellan after all???
