I am wondering if mods would be able to make the party threads and other types of threads meant for everyone? For example, Christmas and New Year party threads, diet check-in threads, work check-in threads, etc. It could be hurtful for some to be excluded, thank you!

Edit: I mean it could lead to exclusion if the OP has certain members on ignore, and those ignored members are not able to check in even if they wanted to. Sorry for not being clear!

That doesn't make sense. If I want to talk about weight loss, I go to that thread. If I want company on new years, I go to that thread. That's like saying we shouldn't have a bipolar forum because it excludes people without bipolar. If a thread doesnt fit for you, find a different thread or start one.

I think you misunderstand. Some of the people, non-mods, who make these threads, have several members on ignore. These ignored members are not able to post on the thread at all because the OP has them on ignore. So even if they wanted to check in, they are not able to. Having mods make the threads would eliminate this issue.

I am in agreement with you on this. Also, I don't think that a member should be punished by being disallowed from starting a thread BECAUSE they practice the recommended self-care to keep triggering members from commenting on their threads. I think that goes against DocJohn's intent to create a safe environment.

How does it work when someone ignores you? Can you see the thread and not post?

Yes, exactly. When you try to post a reply it says "this user has you on ignore", or something like that.

Well, I did a Christmas party thread because I don't have anyone on ignore/block. There are some other people too. I've seen the recurring "Couch" thread in the psychotherapy forum ask its involved posters for a person without blocks to step forward and start the follow-up thread at the appropriate time.

So you could always just ask in open forum or message someone you know has no blocks. But yes, the moderators seem to do it when asked or if they notice a long standing and popular thread at its limit (especially check-in type threads).

I'd be happy to create a thread for you, if you have something you'd like.

I suppose it's good to remind people of that side-effect of the ignore list. I made mention of it when I announced my little party thread.
Thanks for this!

If it happens that what should be an "open" thread ends up having people on ignore, anyone can notify the mods using the little red triangle to report a post and ask them to restart the thread.

The purpose of having people on ignore is so they can't harass you. If you comment on someone else's thread, then that member you have on ignore can comment on your replies. This can allow people to harass you, and yes, it happens. If someone starts a thread, they should be able to continue their self care by not having the people on their ignore list able to respond to them. If someone starts a party thread that you can't comment on, then start your own party thread.

People shouldn't be forced to interact with those they don't want to, for whatever reason.

If a moderator wants to start a new thread, then let them, but someone's thread shouldn't be hijacked because they are being safe and practicing self care.

That is incorrect -- members who have people on their Ignore list should generally refrain from starting these types of group threads. Especially for general holiday celebration and the like, but it also applies to game threads and what-not.

Members who have nobody on their ignore list are welcomed to start such threads.

Members who have someone on their ignore list should contact a moderator or administrator to start the thread for them.

We don't want redundant or duplicate threads just because the ignore tool is being used by a member. Thank you.

If this is the case then it should be added to the community guidelines. Otherwise how is anyone supposed to know about a rule?

Happy to update the community guidelines with this information. I agree, it should be clear.

Thanks for this thread!
This has been a problem and the clarification is helpful.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
