Oops.

I meant adding a GIF icon to the forums to make it easier for the internet illiterate. I find it easier to reply with GIF's to express my emotions due to my autism.

Do you know about the extended list of emoticons @SybilMarie? If you're looking for those, look to the box of emoticons to the right of a long reply ("post reply"). Click on the word More to open a great, big page of emoticons.

I do know how to upload gifs to the forum. The process is fairly complicated.

There isn't the plugin available unfortunately. We had a lead on a developer who might've been able to help, but unfortunately nothing came from that effort. Sorry.

Believe it or not, thanks to ChatGPT-4, I was able to get the AI to write a basic plugin that enables GIPHY gifs to be searched for and added to your post.

Right now, during testing, this only works in the default template (Blue responsive). And it only works on the Quick Reply box (not when you "go advanced").

This "Search for GIFs" field is right below the quick reply form. Type a keyword in there to pull up a bunch of animated GIFs related to what you're interested in posting. Then click on the image you want to add to your post. That's all there is to it.

Doc John, I gave my feedback in the thread in the social forum, but will provide it here to since you asked.

From a personal perspective I don't care for the Responsive Blue skin so I will most likely not use the GIFT option for now.

I have one concern about the GIFs available. Some of the searches I did came up with images I felt were inappropriate for MSF. They related to drugs/alcohol or violence. I foresee the potential for problems.

Like I said, I don't plan to use the GIFs much myself, just providing my two cents worth.

Came back to add that I just noticed the GIF option is now available for other skins. My feedback still stands.

Thank you for your feedback. However, I might suggest that GIFs are just like words, they're an ability to express oneself in a way that some people feel more comfortable with.

The community guidelines apply to everything within the community and what a member chooses to post. That includes links, words, sentences, images, and yes, GIFs. If a person posts a GIPHY GIF you feel is inappropriate, simply report the post like you would with any other inappropriate content.

The use of GIPHY is entirely optional for individual members. If a member feels offended or upset by something they do a search on, they should just not use the service. And again, if they come across an actual posted GIF by another member they feel is inappropriate to our community and violates our guidelines, report it and we will take a look at it.

Question about the gif things: if we find a gif thing in the search thing that is upsetting or offensive, but we don't use the gif, (thats the important bit of the question) do we get into a trouble for it coming up in the search thing? thats the bit that worries me about it, us getting a scary screamy message saying how very DARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! you look up pink fluffy unicorns farting magic fairy dust or whatever we searched for cause it probably saves our searches i think, when i click the box it comes up with a dropdown of what i previously searched for, idk if it does it for everyone cause it says (rightly) that i searched for cats, dogs, disney, cake and a couple of other things as well i forget what

i mean it shows us what we looked for, i dont know if it lets the mods/admin know what we search for

i dont think i could get into a troubles for what i looked up

My concerns are aligned with lizardlady's.

I have understood MSF to be a forum that provides a safe place for people with mental health challenges to give and receive support. Some of the gifs are cute and affirm a supportive environment; those are really nice to have access to and to see. Too many, however, are sexist, racist, promote violence and abuse, display illegal drug use, suggest overdose of pills, and are potentially triggering in all sorts of ways.

Is MSF loosening its commitment to being a safe site? I'm confused.
