DocJohn,

i am concerned cuz when someone searches my username "cottoncandylocks" on yahoo or google, the results come up and show things i wrote about here....and links them straight to my post.....
is there any way to stop my posts from being searchable from outside psychcentral?

I searched for you on google and got nothing. But you are right, ONE post came up on Yahoo. But it took me to the main page, not your exact post.

Glad you found it out. Now we wait for our answer.

I thought Doc said once not long ago that the posts in the forums couldn't be searched by the search engines like that???

I think he said something about how aggressive the search engines are and he constantly battles so to keep this place safe! II'm pretty ignorant about all this but if there is a certain link or search word that you used that caused it to come up... that might help to block it? (Like he might know, but I don't What do you mean it shows up on Yahoo??? I'm a member of a yahoo group, you mean you did a search... from the yahoo main page.. and what was the search? Curious.)

She searched for her screen name. I searched for her screen name and it came up. I seriously doubt he can block every screenname as we are adding so many each time. But if lets Doc John know there is a problem. meta tags?!

I did a Yahoo search. Not a Yahoo Group search (that just searches the types of groups anywho).

I didn't catch anything from Google or Askjeeves though.

The only place I use this name, is here and mine still showed up, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. (But I could be wrong)

It doesn't (in my experience) link right to a certain post, but it does link to the site itself so anyone could do a search and come up with the posts.

yes, when i put in my name here it shows up here. however, only ppls that i know here know that nick, so they've already seen my threads. am i making any sense? hehe

in other words, ppls that i wouldn't want to see my threads won't because they don't know my nick here, they only know my yahoo nick.

Sometimes some search engines don't completely honor a Website's system settings that say, "Hey, don't index anything here." That's what's happening in this case. I'm looking into it further, and will continue to keep you updated with any progress. Unfortunately, nothing is foolproof when it comes to technology and this is no different.

One of the things I tend to recommend is to not use a common nickname you might use elsewhere online, just to be on the safe side. You can always put in a name change request through editing your Profile here.

Best,
DocJohn

My nickname comes up doing a search on Yahoo too. I'm afraid it's possible for someone to figure out. I put identifying info in my posts too. At least I know my mother doesn't use the internet.
