Hi Katheryn:
I'm starting to get some under my 'pits, allegedly due to pregnancy. I intend to get them removed pronto after this baby is born. They freak me out - don't want them on me.

Why are you uncomfortable talking to the doctor about them?

Good luck!
LMo

The only real reason to have one removed is if it is being irritated like the one under your strap. IDK if they are considered the same as moles when it comes to pricing for removal. Moles cost about $600 here. skin tags I don't fit into either category, and I have one on my back near the strap area too.

I just plain need to see a dermatologist and have a full body check. EEEEKKKK! lol

Kathy I had 9 removed in August. nothing to it. They numb it a bit then take a straight razor and cut them off. Healed up nicely too. nothing to be afraid of at all.

if they're in a place where they could bleed, then definitely get them removed. The last thing you want is an infection.

I am getting more and more skin tags. I've never had any removed, but am having two on my eyelid removed in a few weeks. My dermatologist said that in general skin tags are harmless, and he hasn't pushed me to have all of mine removed. (I must have about 20 on various parts of my body.) I don't know what causes them. I thought maybe just getting older? The skin does weird stuff as it ages? I also have more moles now than I used to.

I had a few on my neck & had the dermatologist remove them. It was easy, but ins. didn't cover it as it was considered "cosmetic."--Suzy

i had a skin tag on my armpit for years. since it always got in the way of shaving my armpit, i had it removed when i was 22. it was done by cryosurgery, where my primary doc used a q-tip soaked in liquid nitrogen to put onto the skin tag. it burns a little at first. in a couple of days, the skin tag fell off. mesto presto! it was an easy removal of the skin tag. i'm sure the freeze-off you buy at the store would work as well (it might be a bit expensive).

Hi,
I've had a bunch removed too; some by cutting them off and some by freezing. The freeze-off stuff you buy in the store is not the same concentration that is used by your doctor.

Of note, if you have a skin tag that gets irritated, bleeds, gets excoriated for whatever reason, it is covered by insurance. Otherwise, they are not.

I have a zillion, neck and "torso" :-) I've never bothered taking them off as they can grow back. I heard from one dermatologist that they're related to weight gain which I can believe. My mother had a lot of moles and I do too so I just ignore them all (except making sure none of them are cancerous or otherwise need removing). Some of the skin tags just "die" and come off themselves.

My doc never associated them with weight gain or diabetes. She said that my necklaces and clothes around my neck pull on the skin. I was told that I get them more often is because I'm blonde and fair skinned. And, that they are hereditary.

Why would these doctors have such different explanations? Supposedly they all passed the same test.....

I've had a couple removed...one huge one off my abdomen. That one took on a life of it's own....could be molded into different shapes and designs...skin tags I tend to get them under my arms and on my abdomen. Nothing to worry about...makes shaving a tad difficult but oh well...they will come off whenever I get insurance.

Katheryn, the do grow in time and also after being removed can grow back again. They normally aren't a big concern hon....try not to worry too much.

wow! i never heard of those before. i used to have a little tiny one under my pit. used to try and pull it off sometimes, but wasn't sure what it was (didn't know that it had a name). i figured it was harmless / benign sort of thing. never managed to pull it off but i think it fell off by itself. one guy i was with had a tiny one too...

thanks for the link :-)

The ones on my neck, my 3-year old granddaughter "plays" with (ouch! :-) and wants to know, "What's this?" and I just tell her a mole, then I get the "Why?" and that always throws me :-) I have chosen the "I was born with it" stance but she says "Why?" to everything for 4-5 explanations which is keeping me young trying to come up with responses that make sense to me LOL :-)

I've developed a few in my armpits, and under area bra is over.
I've read and heard, they are not due to weight gain or diabetes, but can commonly occur in areas where something rubs against, sweat gland areas and heredity.
I just started getting them,I'm 50, and I've been linking them to aging and excessive sweating from the damn, hot flashes.
I need to eventualy have them removed, they get snagged when I shave. Hubby had a few on his face, and were "burnt" off with cauterization, he felt hardly any discomfort. There are different techniques of removal, I guess it depends on which one your doc uses and possibly location and/or size of the tag(s).
Lots of luck on what you decide to do with them.
My gram had them and when we were little kids, they referred to them as "bread crumbs", but to me "tags" make more sense. skin tags

I think shaving can cure a multitude of skin complaints! I mean... They are only going to cut / burn them off... If you steralise (with an alchohol solution) and cut them off by shaving them with a sharp razor then steralise them again (with an alcholol solution) and care for them, then I don't see that you aren't doing anything that a doctor would be doing for them...

I get warts sometimes. When I was little I got one on the inside of my right thumb. That one got numbed off. A few months later I got one on my left thumb. That one got cut off. Since then I got one starting on my right knee... But I used to shave nearly daily. Sometimes It would bleed... But I kept shaving so it never got a chance to develp properly and eventually it gave up. Sometimes I get itchy on the inside of my thumb and I can tell a wart is trying to take there... I bite the skin off so it doesn't take...

Dunno... I guess I avoid doc's as much as possible. But: If it it benign and it is a surface affliction in a place where scarring doesn't matter then.. I guess I'd rather take care of it myself if possible...

When cut "off" during shaving, they bled and returned, zapping them with cauterization, for some reason, seems to keep them away, hubby's facial ones never returned.
Scarring under armpits doesn't bother me at all, it's the annoyance of those little tags.
Especially when you can't see the tags due to nearsightedness, etc. under the pits, and nick them.
I've been lucky with one, that hasn't returned, yay!!
The tags that aren't in the way of shaving or chafing discomfort of certain clothing, I just leave them alone, they're not life threatening and I'm not vain, sooooooooooo I wear my "tags" on. LOL!!
I have too much happening in my world to let them bother me, even cut back on having hairless pits for awhile, but will take care not to grow "Brillo" pads. LOL!! skin tags
Take care,
DE

wow this has been an interesting subject

i went to doc and told the two that are causing me discomfort he said that he would arange for me to have those two removed he also said if female person had time she might do some more but it takes time because you have to have local anesphtic injected into each one, i also went to the nurse about my weight and i am going to see her weekly
thank you for all the responses
