I just went to the supermarket. I was getting stuff down from a top shelf and heavy stuff fell down on me and hit me on the head. It was very painful and a big shock. Unfortunately right at that moment a woman staff member who was behind me laughed out loud really sharply. I tuned to her and yelled "It's not funny, I got hurt!" I said it several different ways as she seemed not to register, and then I realised she's been on her mobile and it hadn't been meaning to laugh at me. Although the timing was amazing and I actually think it was both laughing to her caller and laughing at me, as she was right behind me when the stuff fell on me. When we went to the front of the store another staff member said she'd done it before, ie the laughing at a customer. She shouldn't have even been using her mobile while on shift.

I was shaking when I went to the register and started crying. The woman in question came up to me with a notepad to record the incident, which I understand - it's protocol - but I told her to go away and I had to tell her several times. I really wanted to shout at her again. And I wanted to get out of the store as I was embarrassed at starting to cry.

I realised as I walked away that my response was in part PTSD - maybe an overreaction due to the trauma I've been as a child and adult. Anyways, if you've read this far - thank-you!

Man I've got a headache.

Just realised part of what happened. My mother used to laugh at me all the time in a very vicious and condescending way when I was hurting. Hello!??

I am sorry you got hurt and sorry she treated you unkindly. You don't deserve to be treated poorly.

That's horrible, and seriously unprofessional on her part. Did you catch her name? You can file a complaint for both being on the phone and for laughing at your accident. I can't imagine that anyone would be happy about an accident that happened on their land since that makes them liable if there is a related injury later. Her trying to file the paperwork may have been her attempt to make up for it later. Some people do react poorly if they have some disorder that makes them seem unsympathetic when they just really don't know how to react, but the fact that she was on the phone just suggests that she really was a poor employee who needs corrective action from her boss so she doesn't upset future customers. The fact that she managed to hit one of your triggers sounds like just a combination of unfortunate timing and reactions.

Are you okay? You said the items that fell on you were heavy. I hope you had someone with you to keep an eye on you to make sure you don't have a concussion. Hope you feel better today.

Thanks guys. Yes, I think it was probably a combination of her not having good reaction skills, her being on the phone and the bad timing. But the awful thing was that as I was saying several times over in different ways, "This isn't funny, I've been hurt" - she kept on laughing. It was very ugly.

My head still hurts (next day, Australian lime) but I don't think it's a concussion.

Irony is I have a robust sense of humour and can often find the humour in things. But I'm not there yet with episode.
