My flashbacks related to my daughters last hospitalization generally occur in my home, or when I see an ambulance with lights on. I haven't had them to much recently, but Friday night I had one while at a performance my husband was in at a park. I've been worried a lot lately about her going off her meds since she's done it before, and out of the blue I just got this "vision" of her going into seizures at the performance. It only happened for a few seconds? minutes? but it really kind of freaked me out since I've only had these flashbacks previously in my home, in the living room where she had her seizures, or when I see an ambulance with lights on.

Those of you who have flashbacks, have you ever had this happen? Where you normally only have them in certain situations, but then they start happening elsewhere too? I'm hoping this isn't something that's going to continue and it has me a little freaked out.

It doesn't really matter where I am as I just need a trigger or even when it 's quiet, my mind will just take me there.

I do hope you and your daughter are well.

Mine usually happen at home because that's where I am most of the time, but it has happened in groups therapy, shopping, in the storage building, just anywhere. So it might happen somewhere else so expect it and don't let it be such a shock. The breathing through it helps me more than anything with flashbacks. 4X4X4 breathing. Sorry it happened to you and I hope your daughter is okay.

My falshbacks happen anywhere too. All it takes is for some random thought to inadvertently wander towards any number of things and BAM, flashback time again. ANy wonder why we numb ourselves with dugs an drink?

I get so frustrated when people ask what my triggers are. Some I know but really it's hard to say. The ones I know I work on till they are not such a strong trigger. Gunshots or fireworks are a trigger, from the sound. So my T suggested that I YouTube fireworks and watch them daily, I mean what do you expect from a PE Therapist, ya know?

Yep. Triggers come from everywhere. Any sensory input related to my traumas can trigger flashbacks and relational triggers cause emotional flashbacks. But they happen all the time. Any type of relationship with another person causes immense stress. And that is without even acutally even getting INTO a relationship friendship or otherwise.
I just try to avoid life altogether. All of it.

How's that working out for you?

Thanks everyone for input. Emotional flashbacks related to my CPTSD have always happened anywhere, very often at work. My PTSD related ones have tended to only happen in very specific circumstances. I'm not even sure what triggered this one, except that I've been worried about her a lot for a long time. Everyone is ok for now though.
