I can't decide. I think people avoid it and run from it and "emotionally" eat because of it, etc. but I think it is more easily solved than figuring out what causes other emotions and solving whatever problem one feels one has because of them is.

What's the difference between a feeling and a state of being?

I'm angry versus I'm bored versus I'm anxious versus I'm tired?

Wow very Philosophical...A meaning of life post
Yes I too feel that people run from the present but this too is a choice
And all choices, action or inaction, tend to have consequences.
I think Boredome is an emotion, and an eater of emotions in it’s self
If allowed to be. The act of acknowledging boardome can be cumulatively damaging if it is allowed to become a personal trait just an opinion mind you. I feel that all emotions that people have, are allowed to become what they are because, much time is spent in their contemplation. (even boredome)

What's the difference between a feeling and a state of being? Are they, not the same, Grasshopper? My Master Po’ism for the day.

Great topic I can’t wait to see what others say.

Good point! I do many of my self-destructive behaviors more out of boredom than anything else. In fact I'm doing so right this moment - surfing the net at work because I'm bored out of my flipping mind.

The word emotion includes a wide range of observable behaviors, expressed feelings, and changes in the body state. This diversity in intended meanings of the word emotion make it hard to study. For many of us emotions are very personal states, difficult to define or to identify except in the most obvious instances. Moreover, many aspects of emotion seem unconscious to us. Even simple emotional states appear to be much more complicated than states as hunger and thirst.

What exactly is boredom and why is it considered a negative emotion? Boredom is apparently the scourge of a self-satisfied society that has reached a certain goal of financial independence, (such as in middle to upper class America). We no longer have to spend most of our waking lives struggling for our survival – this is amply taken care of in the traditional forty-hour work week (though many of us work much more...or feel like we're working much more!). Freed from a certain level of economic slavery, we have time, money, energy to spend in our pursuits of happiness and enjoyments.
