Hello pianolady,

Are you currently seeing a therapist? Talking to a professional about healthy ways to let emotions out could be very beneficial.

Some things that help me express emotions are: vigorous exercise, taking a walk, writing about how I'm feeling, and listening to music. (The music one may seem like a weird way to express emotions, but I have a weird thing where I rock back and forth on the couch while listening to music...so it's a good physical release!)

Keep in mind that talking to someone else about how you're feeling can also be very helpful. Perhaps your husband, or a good friend?

You might try expressing your emotions through music (singing, playing the piano); through physical activity (walking, jogging, running, jumping rope, swimming, riding a bike, roller blading, taking a dance or exercise class); through role play with your children (write a play (base it on a fairy tale if your children are young, make it exploring an unknown planet, an undersea adventure), make costumes and sets, make tickets, and put on a show; bake a cake and decorate it to display your emotions; write a letter, then shred it or burn it; make salt dough and sculpt; pounding the dough as much as you want; call your husband on the phone and say: "I have 3 kids and a hubby and feel like I can't let go" and see what he replies; or make an appointment with a therapist, counselor, religious leader and talk it out.
