I have become saturated with people tinkering with my attitude.
Ever heard of "dropping hints" or being a "healthy role model"? I feel like a could vomit lake michigan! I wish folk would live their lives as they wish and keep their thoughts about how others should live theirs with their therapists. Thanks. |

If you like your attitude, (a) you feel it does not need tinkering with so are impervious to those around you who would like to and (b) it is your attitude, no one else can touch it anyway. Why are you hanging around with people you don't enjoy?

I understand that no-one can change me but me. I guess I feel life can be confusing enough without having to sort through genuine behavior and dis-ingenious behavior. It most likely sounds paranoid, but whatever.
This feeling originated from a cartoon I watched this morning. It portrayed a young boy who was being taught by a young girl that dancing wasn't girlish, though the young boy felt it was girlish. I big bear growled when the boy said dancing was girlish. Some penguins, dressed as humans, encouraged the young boy to dance also. I used to enjoy cartoons when I was a kid. Like Popeye the sailor man or bugs bunny. I mean WTF? I think dancing is great, girl or boy. I like dancing myself. What I wouldn't like is being coddled and told that it was OK to dance, even though one might feel self-conscious. I don't understand why entertainment can't just entertain. Why does something simple need to become a vehicle for behavioral modifiers. Maybe I'm off base or a potential homophobe, I'll acknowledge that possibility. The cartoon just evoked a strong response from me. Maybe it is because I've felt socially rejected because I wouldn't just "go with the flow" with the right and wrong of the here and now. I mean when I was young, right and wrong were different than right and wrong now. I guess I'm not an abusive person, but I have abusive feelings that I have to deal with in a non-abusive way. Confusing? Thanks for reading ![]() |

I don't think entertainment can't just entertain because there has to be some "story" to the entertainment and I think all stories have to have some sort of challenge/tension to them to be interesting and/or everyone has a different idea of what is entertaining.
Some people though are afraid or anxious or have other issues about things someone else might enjoy (dancing) and the person who enjoys it wishes everyone could enjoy it too. It is a little more difficult if they have a girl trying to tell a boy that something isn't girlish. How would she know from her perspective? :-) I like the old "real" cartoons like Loony Toons but don't care much for the modern animations like The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, etc.

You're right, I mean everyone has there own idea about entertainment. I guess if it sells advertising spots, its good entertainment today.
I don't really enjoy the simpsons or king of the hill or the adult swim on cartoon network. They seem malicious, like they are purposely trying to offend some type of people. I'm not comfortable with that. Loony toons and all those I grew up with, were very special to me back then. I've tried watching them as an adult, but the effect isn't the same. They provided a much needed escape for me. I guess I defend them a bit too much. Thanks for responding Perna. You seem like a very patient and understanding soul. |
