These kinds of days come up about the time I get paid each month. I get paid and want to get the expenses taken care of ASAP. I can deal with all of them on my own except one, getting groceries in the house. My roommate/friend and I go and do this together because they are the one with the transportation and we both need to agree on what is coming into the house but the problem seems to happen every time I feel plans are made. My roommate ends up coming up with other things to do that seem to be more important that stocking up on what we need, today was partially understandable as they needed their work clothes washed. I was told that we would be getting some of the groceries done today but they have made themselves comfortable in their room with no indication of wanting to leave the house again. All I want to do is get groceries out of the way so we can have food that I am more willing to consume in the house but even with very little in the house that even requires preparation.
My overall issue monthly is my seeming lack of restraint on splurging on things from the time I am paid until the time we can get groceries that the budget is dipped into for my creature comforts. We can always go later when my payment for my credit card has cleared but the places we usually go don't take credit cards, only debit or cash. One other problem is that just to get some food into the house on my own, I have to go to a store closer to home where the prices are higher than where we usually shop, I dislike having to do this but I feel that having food in the house is somewhat important. I do have drops in how I am feeling if I don't eat when I am hungry. Sorry this seems to be a vent about funds and food. Looking at that and the thought in my mind does improve my mood, even if only slightly. |

Hey there Silversilence,
Maybe if you offered to buy and then they can give you the money they owe? Just make the agreement first on what is coming in. Does the market offer home delivery? you could split that too? I'm probably not being very helpful and I'm sorry for that, I'm not having the best of days today. Good luck with your plans

![]() Are there other transportation possibilities for you?? Perhaps bus services to shopping centers? Or joining a group for transportation to different places? Don't know if you're on SSI, but if so, there are options that could make it easier for you. If you aren't disabled, then buses or asking other friends for an occasional ride to the store would be best for you. Either way, I would recommend keeping your half of grocery money to yourself, to ensure that you have money for groceries each month. Groceries aren't cheap! The last thing you should have to worry about is how you're going to eat ~ without food or money for the month. There are also county resources for low-income residents. Not just food assistance $, but there are places to go and pick up food once/month, Salvation Army has food assistance, local churches also help provide meals and/or groceries. Best wishes to you!

Unfortunately I cannot seek assistance for food, I make too much monthly even though I don't really work. (I am a member of a Native American tribe and get a set amount of money each month.)
Bus transport is not on the list of things I want to do for a few reasons. One reason is I prefer not to when I can avoid it, I dislike public transportation. I also don't want to make multiple trips like I would have to for what food is coming into the house. I am not physically fit enough to carry half of what is bought either (I like trying to get everything in as few trips as possible). I don't have any friends who drive other than my roommate. We have financial arrangements made from when we first moved in together and they are already evenly split it is just a matter of scheduling on my roommates part as they work and I don't. I don't borrow the car because, although I can drive, I don't like driving in winter and I prefer not to drive at night which is when my roommate would need to be picked up from work. I am sure I will work things out with them sometime it is just a matter of patience. *Also, recently, we did get some of our essentials taken care of it was my choice to 'hold off' this time. Just wanted to wait for my finances to settle. Last edited by SilverSilence77; Jan 04, 2012 at 11:05 PM. Reason: Added input |
