Just wondering if others' experience this ...

I am feeling very stressed because of work (please understand, I am sooo incredibly grateful for my job. I was out of work for 2 1/2 years after being laid off, so depressed it was scary, and just eeking by. I started at this firm just 8 months ago. I am Oprah grateful...but I am just so irritated).

Long story short: The project I tried to get a head-start on (6 months ago because I knew it would be an Enormous project and tough to manage - in a VERY short period of time) ended up being dumped in my lap this morning (at the last minute). Exactly what I tried to avoid happening. This is one of my major peeves in the workplace.

To add insult to injury, this is the very thing I used to do in my career that I LOVED (the project itself) before I got sick (diagnosed).

So now, I am super stressed, am having a hard time gathering my thoughts, am grumpy, nervous, cranky, brain feels scrambled, sounds are much louder and totally annoying me (people's voices), my sense of smell is heightened etc). I had to take a half a Xanax because I was afraid I would yell at someone or act inappropriate (for instance, try to be witty but come off like a total B)

And all my colleague little quirks are bugging me, too!

I want to just throw a tantrum (although I never would), and yell at everyone for being so loud and annoying and also yell at the people that dumped this on me at the last minute (I want to say something like, "I tried to get this going 6 months ago. You guys ignored it. Now, we are down to 2 weeks to complete the task (no excuses, no leeway, days count), and I have to do it all myself. By myself. I am totally stressed out and miserable. WTH?!"

Does this happen to you when you are stressed?

yes it does! (i also suffer from tension headaches & migranes... )
i would sugest just to hang in there, and stay positive.
you could be amazed at what a firm, but plesant request, could get you.
Dont let people get used to steping over you,
make sure they know that they are responsible for their part of the work,
equaly as much as you are.
if they don't respond in a positive way,
maybe it's time to take it over their heads,
use the chain of command.
it will help you. your work. and everyone involved in the matter.
i hope very much that this all works out

Thanks!

I get headaches, as well (also, I have this ridiculous twitch in my left eye that is a recent tick, and only happens at times like this. embarrassing).

Without yelling :-) do bring up your valid points with your boss and see if you can get some help?

thanks! Not a surprise, but I have a sensitive stomach so it's hard for me to take anything without having tremendous stomach pains (I take a Pepcid every day). I tried OTC, but they hurt my stomach. If it's really bad, though, I have a dr. prescribed med, and it knocks me out. Usually, when I wake up, I feel better. Meh. Not ideal but what works for now.

I wish I could but I haven't mastered the art of (proper) communication yet. I internalize. Especially in the workplace. And with this economy, in SoCal, I don't DARE say anything unless it's super urgent or literally, putting someone at risk.

I tread carefully, because I really don't report to anyone (except to my own guilt and conscience). Because I am so hard on myself and critical of myself - it keeps me in line. And there are a few long-time employees that are so bitter and unhappy they LOVE to gossip so I don't want to give them any fuel.

I think I have trust issues, as well
