One of the systems of my depression I have had the most trouble handling is my irritability. I was just wondering how you all cope with this? I have been finding it getting worse are worse lately and I really am looking for some advise/suggestions on how to... well, not let things get to me so much.

all i can suggest is ... if your irritability is directed at folks ... try to take a deep breathe and think how you would feel if you were spoke to/treated the way you are tempted to talk/treat them in that moment. easier said than done i know but even if you have to walk away for a minute and take it out on something inanimate (i.e. slam a door, punch a cushion, kick a can) ... sorry but i'm not brilliant at controlling my emotions myself so that's all i got.
Thanks for this!

I get very irritable due to both depression and mania with my bipolar. The main thing for me is to recognize when I'm feeling irritable. I need to conciously be aware of it and be on guard with what I'm doing or saying and tone of voice, etc. This is especially hard working in customer service, but also of the most importance.

If it gets too bad I take a minute to go somewhere to sit quietly for a minute to try to collect myself.

Thank you for your suggestions and I think I did better last week. I was still frustrated at time but this time I was more aware and tried to take deep breaths. But some people just know how to push other people's buttons you know...?

I'd try some lifestyle management techniques first, then, if they didn't work, would talk to my doctor.

What do you do?
