It's been months now that I've started to experience some miserable lows and unexplainable highs. More than often I go to bed at night crying about nothing at all. Then wake up the next morning feeling perfect.
Lately, the feeling of elation i used to feel have reduced in comparison. I'm almost always miserable these days. Can't concentrate on my studies. Have panic attacks over the slightest things. What is wrong with me?
Could i be a bipolar?

Dear Rose ~ Sweetie, you need to be evaluated by a doctor. Why not see your medical doctor first, to make sure everything is ok. Then if he determines that you're ok, he can refer you to a good therapist. Or perhaps he'll just put you on medication -- perhaps something for Anxiety/panic. You might possibly be depressed too.

You could drop in on the Depression forum, and the Anxiety/Panic disorder forum too. Both these forums have people who feel just like you do. They would certainly understand.

I suffer from severe depression and take medication for it. I used to suffer from anxiety/panic and I do remember feeling as you do. it was miserable, I must admit! I took medication for it, but unfortunately I got addicted to it, and had to get off.

Check with your doctor, okay? And PLEASE let us know how you come out. We'd really like to know. God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee

Thanks, Lee. I will make an appointment with my doctor. If you once start taking medications, do you have to continue taking it for a long time?

The way you take medication and the length of time depend on your diagnosis. In the end it all depends on you and how you feel. Some people would rather be miserable than to take medication. Some people take medication and still feel bad. Still, other people come to terms with having to be on medication for the rest of their lives. It really is up to you. It could take awhile to get used to taking medication but once you're on them you should be able to see the difference between losing it and being in control. Good luck and God bless you.

Hi Rose - Sistah is right. Alot depends on your diagnosis. I have clinical depression, so I WILL have to take it the rest of my life, unless of course I want to feel miserable. I've been on meds for about 40 yrs already so I might as well stay on them.

Let us know how things go, will you? I'd really like to know. God bless & take care. Hugs, Lee

I went to the doc, Lee. Had a breakdown before, so my parents thought it best. He gave me anti-anxiety pills for a month. to sedate me from the panic attacks. I really hope this will make me feel better. But i just can't help thinking what if it doesn't work...my exams are going on right now. i just can't screw this up..

Your mood swings seem to be within normal parameters. You doc may not prescribe meds. or do I think you need medication. You seem to have common anxiety. Avoid re-enforcing anxiety by OCD on negative worry-some News stories and the like.

If you can, try thinking positively. Tell yourself that the pills WILL work, at least for now. Since you are desperate and need to get through your exams "fake it until you make it". Fake feeling well and until you've finished with your exams. Just keep telling yourself, "I'm going to get through this." This thinking could work. Just be positive. Good luck

Yes, that's exactly what i'm trying to do now. My doctor did prescribe some anti anxiety pills. I'm going to think positively. And try not to wander into the dark areas causing me panic attacks. i hope it works.
