They say you should talk to someone when depressed. However, I avoid doing that, because I think depression is contagious, and I don't want others to be affected by it. So, I tend to surf the internet for distractions, hoping that it goes away, but it doesn't always work.

Does anyone know some effective tricks to feel better when sad?

Something I found is to find someone else sad/struggling and talk back and forth. Then it's even steven . Other than that online humor of any sort helps me out. Typing on here or in notepad if I want to be really angry and type stuff that can't go here. If I have free time exercise helps too. Clears the mind. You can msg me anytime too jao I have plenty of bad days so don't feel guilty I'll just respond and tell you how my day sucked too

There are no effective "Tricks" in the bag. No instant gratification as well. As suggested above getting out and doing things helps. See a therapist if the depression gets to overwhelming.

I have always tried to change my thinking. If there is something in particular causing me to be depressed I will change the negative thoughts to positive thoughts. I like to walk it helps minimize the reasons for being depressed. I do feel the same as you I think it is contagious and I don't like to talk about my issues.

Sometimes, for me, nothing helps. But there are times when just getting out and going for a walk helps. Or having a project of some kind helps too. I like having a distraction as well so I'm not thinking about what's bugging me.

If you don't feel like talking , write.
I make up daft jokes, limericks, poems.

Get some sleep , get some space , get some air.

For me it is distraction until I get help with the meds and my therapist I once staved off suicidal depression a whole winter just by reading 10 hours a day every day. For me there are a few things that I get so absorbed in that my mind just stops having thoughts all together. It is internet, movies , video games and books I know they can be complete wastes of time but if you need the relief of your mind to stop with all the negativity go for it any thing that can bring some relief
take care

Hmm...I usually don't do anything. Just wallow in it really (well I guess I do listen to music). But my therapist gave me a huge list of things I could do when depressed. It's huge too, there's 176 different things on there that I could do or divert my attention too. From taking a walk or jogging to reading erotica lol.

Netflix... a browser extension called Hola allows you to access foreign Netflix servers, each of which have their own selection of TV shows and movies. A recently-released American movie might be available on Netflix UK months before it can be seen on Netflix in America, and movies long ago dropped from Netflix USA might now be available in other countries. The best foreign servers are in the UK, Canada, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. You didn't hear about this from me.

What do you do when depressed?

Here's How You Can Vastly Increase The Number Of Shows And Movies You Can Get On Netflix

you are not alone Jaofao and like keyslost typing to somebody else can help or venting it on paper or computer (maybe get rid of it somewhere). the down side to this is that sometimes you get stuck in a rut. Find something you love to do and do it or try something new or put the radio on crank it up and dance

Riding my bike helps, also yoga and meditation. Don't know if the yoga and meditation helps when depressed, but it helps prevent it.

Well, when I'm not wallowing in it, I either read or write. I mainly write poetry. It doesn't always help, for example, if I'm a writer's block. Or sometimes I'm too depressed to even try (that's when I just wallow in it).

Sometimes waiting it out is the best thing I can do. I know that's probably not much help though.
