I get stuck thinking thoughts that hurt. Hard to stop once I get started. The pain is real and physical as well as being in my head. Hard to break the cycle.

I'm the same way. Trying to think rationally though, but it's so hard!

My hurtful thoughts have vivid hurtful pictures to go with them.
It's tough, I know. |

I feel this way all the time. Does anyone have any useful coping methods? ...

Well, I don't know if these are coping methods, but what I try to do is try to change my thoughts to more positive ones. But like I said, I'm trying to think more rationally. The key word here is "trying." Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.
Take my boyfriend for instance. He's just one small example. He has never given me reason to doubt, mistrust him. As a matter of fact, what he does is reassure me, and that is without prompting from me. Yet, what do I do? Yep. I have these vivid mental scenes/thoughts that he's doing something wrong. And sometimes they come outta the blue! The result is it brings me so much pain! I get depressed all over again. He doesn't know about any of this. A girlfriend tells me I need to concentrate on what he does and says, and I'm telling you I try...you don't know how much I try! Yet it happens and happens and happens. I think it's a part of my OCD. Nevertheless, if that's true, it doesn't help the fact that these thoughts, not just about him but in general too, hurts! It's distressing, depressing, etc. |

OMG! OMG!
I just read more about OCD, and yep, that's exactly what it is. As a matter of fact, the correct term (in my case) is ROCD (Relationship OCD). It was amazing reading myself! I mean, I'm so bad that, while knowing his habits, I've made him out to be with another woman 24/7! Yes, we're in a relationship, and, lol, I'm so slow he's the one who let me know, and now I have this man doing all sorts of things. Oh he's not the first to be the object of my thoughts, don't get me wrong, but he's the first where I recognize where the problem is from. |

Me too. Like a merry go round in my head. Sometimes a new hurtful memory/thought pops in and it adds itself to the already crowded area. I pray and that helps. Sometimes I sing and that helps. Today, I'm on this site and that has REALLY helped. I wish I could overcome these thoughts but...

I'm seeing the psychiatrist himself this coming Thursday, he's the one who prescribes the meds. And while there I'll ask about OCD meds. I'm currently on Cymbalta, 30mg. I read that Cymbalta is good for OCD too, but I'll find out Thursday. But if it is, it's certainly not helping, maybe I need a higher dose for that.
Anyway, my honey texted me this afternoon, and it took me to the moon! BUT, as usual, I'm back to earth with you know what. ![]() |

Well, I saw my psych today, and talked with him. And it's definitely OCD.
When I described what I'm going through, especially the very unfounded suspicious thoughts about my boyfriend, the doctor said "suspicous"? and I said yes because that's exactly what they are, and they're so heavy. Everyday it seems constantly they're in my head and I get sooo anxious, etc. And it's not only him too! It's against some friends and family too. I didnt know that being suspicious, unfounded suspicions, is OCD. Well he gave me another prescription for Cymbalta, 30mg, and Seroquel, 25mg, (I got off the Seroquel because of feeling that I didn't need it anymore, but now he feels I do), and we're going to see if the combination helps. If not, when I go back to see him in a month, he'll put me on Luvox. I want to be free! Wait. And my OCD isn't only thoughts. I also have the continually checking kind, checking the stove, faucets, radio, etc for a zillion times it seems! |

With distressing thoughts I try to change it for just a second and if I get lucky I can build on it. I also do a lot of singing. I try to pick a song that is calming and really pay attention to the words. I know how exhaust g this can get. It's even harder if you have to keep it all a secret. Wishing you a quiet night.
