I should probably start with the fact that I watched and finished 13 reasons earlier this week why and it was definitely a trigger... ever since I keep wondering what is the purpose of my life... yes I have 2 kids and I live for them but eventually they will move away and have their own families and I will be an afterthought...
Why do I live? To feel hurt? I've been hurt so much that I've become numb. I'm afraid to feel anything. Well no, I'm not afraid, I'm just no longer capable, it's like a fire went out. Why do I live? To grow old and sick? What is the purpose? Beyond my kids dependency, I don't see a purpose. My husband loves me but I believe that he'd get over me shortly if I was to go, and to be honest, he has hurt me so much that I do not worry about him. I am so sorry for this depressing post but I just feel stuck in a place where it seems life is superfluous. |

Yes it's tough. There have been times in my life I just haven't seen a reason either. It is easier now though as I have sought out ways to have that purpose; specifically to have meaning to others.
I suggest stepping out and getting involved in something. I volunteer for both a museum and a charity. I also have gotten involved in the leadership of a support group. This gives me 1-2 reasons to get out each week. I am doing something purposeful in that I would be missed should I stop attending. I suggest finding something to appreciate. My opinion is that you will then learn to appreciate yourself. |

According to Viktor Frankl, meaning can be found through, (presuppose the spark for life meaning, to make man capable of what they can become, elicit/make a person become what he in principle is capable of becoming), found in Psychology Today. One can actively cultivate purpose through:
Creativity or giving something to the world through self- expression, focusing on a project or task that one can accomplish; Experiencing the world by interacting authentically with our environment and with others, through cultivating loving relationships; and Changing our attitude when we are faced with a situation or circumstance that we cannot change, by accepting it and/or bearing it with dignity. I hope this was helpful. |

Dr. Grohol tells us what many fail to appreciate: "The meaning of life is different for everyone." https://excellencereporter.com/2015/...aning-of-life/
"The unexamined life is not worth living." -- Socrates, at his trial, quoting Plato's Apology “If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.” -- René Descartes Some believe each of us may choose to be the author of our life purpose and the meaning resulting. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy speaks of Core Values -- values are who we want to be and what we want our lives to be about. Values Exercises - Portland Psychotherapy Clinic Abraham Maslow has a hierarchy of needs. https://simplypsychology.org/maslow.html "Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence." Definition of Wellness - Dimensions of Wellness Finding your purpose is not easy. “Ever more people today have the means to live, but no meaning to live for.” – Viktor E. Frankl Despite much diligence, my purpose, and the meaningfulness I seek, remains a botheration. There is much online to assist the curious about finding purpose.
