Hello, how do you cope with your emotions? Especially if you are feeling negative? You make predictions of what will happen, you imagine the worst thing that could happen.. to the point that you avoid or dont do the activity anymore.

Since last night, i decided to take control of my thoughts. You know, its almost overrated to "watch your thoughts" but we dont really do it. I decided to turn it to a possible or say a coping thought versus the negative thought. I realized that moment by moment, i judge others negatively, imagine the worst, and other i had some bad thoughts such as its too late to turn my world around, that il be doomed to failure, to death.

Today, i was relax but whenever i wanted to take control of my life, depression puts me down. Sometimes i tell myself, its not you, IT'S THE DEPRESSION TALKING!

So how do you cope with your emotions? Esp. the negative?? Did you ever make a move that changed your life because you overcame this?

hugggsssss

Hello raisemeup: Well... I watch my thoughts. But more than that, I breathe into them & smile to them. Sometimes I will even place a hand over my heart as a sign of compassion for them. But I also maintain an active meditation practice. From my perspective, watching one's thoughts is just one piece of a more "global" practice, so to speak. And if one is not actively engaged in the whole practice, simply watching one's thoughts is, as you wrote, overrated.

I see this is your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

Excellent advice! I'm going to use this myself.

Have you heard of the "Catastrophic Thinking" style? I was the 'queen' of this. I learnt some skills in CBT that have helped a great deal to challenge this. Another thing you can do is ask yourself if thinking that way is an advantage. Compare that to the list of disadvantages. That helps me cope.

Wow, our thinking is similar, my depression is mostly situational, however maybe some of the things I do to help myself can help you. Mainly I try to let go of as much as possible, usually things can be over thought, it's hard to let go, I know, but if you can just somehow release and then what usually happens for me is things start to turn around on their own. Hope this answer isn't too cryptic, good luck
