Anyone found any good ways to make things less boring (in a positive way)?

No, I'm not on any meds. Thanks for the support ![]() But it strikes me that life really is just boring for most people. I've done many different and amazing things in life, but I'm bored of those things now the novelty had gone. I don't think I'd be bored if I was rich, but I'm not. So my life is very repetitive and monotonous, and there's not much left that interests me, tbh.

My life is also very repetitive & monotonous. In fact I would say it would be difficult for anyone to have a life that is more so.
![]() ![]() The only thing that occurs to me, with regard to making things less boring in a positive way, is to keep learning new things (not that I practice what I preach to all that great a degree.) ![]() ![]() One of the things that was mentioned in the program was that there may come a time when, as the sun swells & incinerates the 4 rocky planets, some of the moons of Jupiter & Saturn may well warm to a degree that they will, at least for a time, become suitable for the development of life. I found this fascinating & it sort-of sparked my imagination... at least for a while. For me, sometimes, it's just stumbling on new little bits of information such as this that keeps me from expiring from boredom completely. (I should probably make an effort to acquire more new tidbits of information. But I don't.) ![]()

Yeah, learning stuff can be fun.
But I'm pretty bored of new knowledge too, tbh. At best it's just a second of, 'wow, interesting', before getting back to the drudgery, lol. I think most people just lead dull lives. How could they not? But I reckon if you gave them a stack load of cash they'd stop being bored pretty quick, lol.

I am never bored. And I don’t find my life repetitive or monotonous.
In my experience most people aren’t bored either. I am not sure why you think most people live dull lives. First of all my job is very fast pace and something always happens. We make jokes in the morning about hoping for a boring day. Never happened so far. Then I have hobbies, I create something, it can’t possibly be boring. Then I have my husband and I have a group of friends with whom I do fun stuff. When I want quiet time I read books or I watch something. We also do a bit of travel, yes that costs money. But you can save for it and you can travel cheaply (if you like traveling). I don’t believe you need a lot of money to not be bored. Lots of stuff is free or inexpensive. In the summer there are fairs and outdoors concerts and walks in parks and festivals that are completely free. I do wonder if you are depressed? I think boredom is a mind set. Your mind set is that you are unhappy and bored. I’d say it comes from within. I wonder if seeing a therapist might help you to get to the bottom of it. |

But I'm certainly bored all the time. And people lead very dull lives, it seems to me - hence why they escape into TV and alcohol all the time. Speaking only for myself, I find most everything boring these days. Mostly because I've done it all and there no real novelty left. I'd like a huge amount of cash so as to be able to do new exciting and interesting things. I have no desire, or money or time, to see any kind of therapist. That strikes me as a waste of money, since all I really need is fun stuff to do - I'm not convinced the problem is I my head, more my life circumstance. Like I said, give me loads of cash and I'd find plenty of interesting things to do.

I’d not worry if others are unhappy and have dull lives, but focus on your own unhappiness and boredom. Why do you care if others are unhappy? Especially if these people aren’t your friends.
I am sorry you are surrounded by people who drink and use alcohol to escape. None of my friends or family drink. So perhaps it’s the area or your particular surrounding. It’s not my experience. By no means I know there are many alcoholics out there but none in my daily life. Some people watch TV snd some don’t. I’d not worry what other people do. Is your job not rewarding? Can you find happiness in making difference or creating something? Sure everyone would want to make more money but one doesn’t need to be filthy rich to have a nice life. You said you work in education. Do you not have health insurance? If you do, could you check if it covers some therapy? Well if you believe source of your unhappiness is poverty, what could you do to change it? Are you in the US? Can you get a second job? Work overtime? Look for a better paid job? Volunteer in a homeless shelter to put your orb life in to perspective? See, you are unhappy and bored but you are trying to explain your unhappiness and boredom by stating how everyone else is bored and unhappy. But it just simply isn’t the case plus what does it matter? Thinking how unhappy are other people isn’t going to bring you happiness. |

I just noticed you said “you’ve done it all.”
How is it possible? You’ve been on every continent? In every state? In every National Park? You ran or walk marathon? You participated in local politics? You wrote a book? You published an article? You played every sport? You painted in every medium? You exhibited in art shows? You built something? You’ve been to every museum in your state/country? You played in local theater? You attended every theater? You cook every recipe out there? You volunteered in every charity? You played every instrument? You sang in a choir? You know how to dance every dance style? You skydived? Scuba dived? You played chess? You made pottery? Etc etc etc etc etc etc |

I agree it doesn't matter what others do. So let's leave that aside. I'll try and address your points about me honestly.
And thank you for taking the time to try and help, and for writing such posts. Is my job rewarding? No. But no job is to me. My current job is as good as any job gets. Health insurance - I'm in UK. So no, I don't get access to stuff like that. And even if I did, I wouldn't. Therapy not for me. I'm not poor, but I believe being truly rich would sort out the boredom issue (I'm talking billionaire level). There's no way to achieve this, no. I've done plenty of volunteering - it's boring and does nothing except make see more miserable people. I don't think other people are unhappy to bring myself happiness, they're totally unconnected. I think most others are miserable because that's the evidence I have from them. Yes, I've done it all. Not literally, obviously. But I've travelled a lot, done sport, done politcs, done art, watched hundreds of shows, etc etc. After a while it's all the same - I've read thousands of books, now they are all boring to me. I've tried lots of food, now it all basically is just food. I can't think of anything new I'm particularly interested in that I could afford to do.

I still think that you benefit from seeing a professional. You might not feel depressed but you likely are. Depression manifests itself in many different ways including loss of interest in things and boredom.
You absolutely can see a therapist with NHS. I have a close family member in UK and I travel there fairly often (usually annually) and familiar how things work. She saw a therapist through NHS on three separate occasions, all three times were short term therapy but very beneficial. And no she doesn’t have mental illness. I’d speak to your GP. Not sure why you assume money would solve your issue. Money rarely solve anything. Some wealthy people suffer from depression and loss of interest and boredom and yet many middle class and pretty poor people enjoy their life. Clearly money isn’t an issue. It’s nice to have more money but you can practice radical acceptance. Accept what’s there and what can’t be there and go live your life or seek help. Don’t know how old you are but you won’t live forever |

the thing that works for me is to just spend only a few minits/ an hour at most on something, and come back to it later
like: my days are usually quite boring, (breakfast, alexa quiz, sod all else), but if I example spend the morning watching a tv programme or listening to some music, I can then return to my quiz later that kind of thing though the trouble then is to find stuff that will keep your attention in the meantime bordom's hard because it can get to a stage where even things that don't usually make you bored, make you bored |
