I've been suffering for weeks now with insomnia, I get about 5 hours of sleep and then up at 330.
In my waking hours I work full time and have a family I care for, after taking care of my responsibilities I study and meditate and work on this spiritual practice.
My insomnia is stemming from these memories of hurtful things that I have experienced in the past coming to my mind, and my physiological response to them. I know this is part of the process and I know it's part of healing and growing but it is hard to go through.
Does anyone have similar experiences and any helpful suggestions for getting through it without insomnia for a start?

I would rather not say the exact name of it due to maybe giving a negative impact to the practice or to others who have a different experience with it
It is a western mystical tradition first becoming known, or having written works produced as early as the 16th century in Europe.

Have you ever considered getting a therapist to help with some of this?

To be honest, I have had some bad experiences with both finding and keeping therapist for a few years, one reason is due to having to move a bit more than I'd like to.
The other is financial and my insurance plan.
I don't want to sound like I wouldn't consider it, but I have some reasons to keep waiting to do it.
It doesn't seem really pressing right now.
Maybe the problem is coming from lack of guidance. Maybe I should try to find someone to help me learn.

Actually, to be more specific, I have worked with a therapist for over a year back in 2007, she was great, but I moved from the area in 2009. After all the time, energy and effort I put into that relationship and that contract I really don't want to try with someone else. Now, I almost hate to talk about it with anyone for any reason. However, my life situations didn't magically undo themselves, I learned better coping and all, but of course, they still exist in my mind.
I feel when someone says to talk to a therapist they shut off discussion

A bit confused about when you stopped seeing that T, but either way, it has been 10-12 years. Maybe there is someone out there now that might be able to help. Not sure where you are in California, but some schools that have either social work or psychology graduate programs, offer reduced-fee services, because they are a training center. You might look in your area and see. If you are near UCLA or UCSF or Davis or Stanford or UCSD Loma Linda it could be a potential option for you. I did this when I was a starving resident and the woman who helped me was excellent.

Thank you bp, I realized that I really should look into this issue as you suggested. I have been sweeping things 'under the rug' for a long time, it's time to try something else, obviously.

I also believe that Therapy may help you. I'd consider it - if you can afford it, of course! If you can't, perhaps there are some self-help books that may help you. I am sure that there must be something about Trauma and Grief. Take a look and see which ones are getting the best reviews or which ones look like the most interesting and useful TO YOU! I believe there may be some YouTube Videos about the subject so give it a look perhaps! I am sorry I can't be more helpful as I don't have a lot of useful advice to give myself! In any case, I Hope and Pray that you'll feel better REALLY soon! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Imokay2, your Family, your Friends, your Therapists and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!
Thanks for this!
