What's the difference? How can I tell if I am hurt or if I am angry? I feel angry but I think my feelings are actually hurt. Can the anger be covering up the hurt feelings? It's just something someone said to me at work. It's eating me up inside. I'm trying to brush it off but something in my head is screaming at me. It's like a big old tantrum in there. Something about not being heard, valued, or understood. Something about being pushed away, ignored, unwanted. And that is making me feel uncared about, unloved. But I can't decide if I am actually angry or just hurt? Perhaps more importantly, how can I stop feeling this so I can get back to feeling better? HUGS Kit

Hugs. Maybe its both.

Try washing cold water on your face, and distracting yourself with something fun.

Was this person mean? Was it the way you took it?

I almost always think of anger as covered-up hurt. That said, it really is both. I'm sorry you're feeling hurt and angry. It's a rotten feeling. Hopefully as the night goes on you will feel less entangled. I hope so.

The person wasn't mean so much as dismissive and cold shouldered. It might have partially been the way I took it, but partially the way it came across. Plus it was email, so much harder to read the person's intent in the written word. I'm trying to get a hold of a friend so I can talk through it. My impulse is to SH but I'm trying not to do that. I think anger and hurt are nearly one and the same. I dont know about you but when I am angry I get tears, and when I am hurt I get tears.

Hi @WovenGalaxy I'm feeling upset today, and nervous, and scared. Being angry always makes me scared afterward. I'm still struggling with it. Hugs Kit

^^^ What these smart people said. I believe anger is usually felt to be sitting on top of either anger or fear. Or both.
