I am an artist and a writer, but a lot of times I can't get anyone interested in my writing or artwork. I want to write books and publish, but because most of the time, people aren't that interested, I just write and don't share a lot of it. I believe I am talented. I've been told by someone I'm a literary genius. Another person told me I'm so talented as an artist this must be why I'm here.

But what can you do when most people aren't interested or don't care? I'm not a famous person, so my work feels pretty irrelevant. People only care if you're high profile and famous.

I want to believe there's a place for my art and writing in this world, but sometimes it's hard to feel that way. It feels like this is my passion and one of my purposes. I started writing when I was in 4th grade, by Middle School I was working on novels and novellas. I won an art scholarship and awards. But...it's hard when you feel so invisible. So I just sit here in my solitude, writing and creating things mostly for myself that others will never see.

If you speak and no one hears you or ignores you, what is the point?

Have you thought of self-publishing?
Many authors/writers are doing so today.
Many of the books on Audible are self published.

I don't have a clue about art side of the equation, but I'd certainly look into self publishing.

I am sorry you are struggling with writing.

I personally know a person who might be able to help. Her name is Evelyn Krieger. She graduated from Harvard, and she both writes and homeschools children as well as helps both high schoolers and college students with their college and grad applications, respectively. She has a blog (I linked it above with her name), and I think you can contact her through that blog. She's really nice. She might be inundated with work, since this pandemic meant more homeschooling for many concerned parents. She might be a good resource regarding publishing.

I am not that good of a writer, and I need to improve my vocabulary. I don't have any desire to publish books, but I loved research before my disabilities worsened. I read your post here and thought I'd reply, since I can relate to your pain of not yet having your dreams fulfilled. I hope one day you do!

That is good advice.
I have to actually finish a book first. I get so discouraged a lot of times I give up.
My poetry book is currently 116 pages. I went through so much this year, I stopped working on it until recently.
I figure I might be able to put some of my artwork in the poetry book so it has some kind of purpose beyond just existing.

I recently started a new novel, I think the idea is very unique...well, as unique as you get these days. I'm planning to do the NaNoWriMo challenge to encourage myself to finish it. So it's on hold until November 1st. I'm excited about it, but then part of me that's like, "Well, no one is going to read this anyway." I enjoy being in the moment with writing, it's as magical as painting and drawing. When you are in the present and a place of mindfulness while actively creating.

It's rough feeling constantly discouraged.

Artwork will definitely help your book, I think! If you can write and do art, that's a huge plus!

I hope you get published. All famous people started out somewhere, and not all of them were famous when they started. You never know what the future holds.
Thanks for this!

To be honest? I don't care about being famous or even the best at anything. My writing and art have a healing message in them, and that's why I want to share them. The purpose is to help others.

Thank you for sharing a resource too, by the way! That was very kind and I appreciate it.

I think writing for a general audience is difficult these days. I'm planning to do technical writing. If you want to become a general writer, why don't you attend writing workshops online? I know Esme Wang the author of "The Collected Schizophrenias" has workshops online. Sometimes, she gives scholarships. She also has schizophrenia. This is her workshop site: Shop - Esme Weijun Wang I don't know your diagnosis but maybe she can help you get started. I have been following her on Instagram. She is prolific and successful as a writer. Best wishes!

I currently don't have the finances to do workshops or schooling. But when I do, I think this is a great idea! Thank you for the recommendation. I'll look into her workshops.

I'm a novelist and poet. Bipolar and PTSD. I think it's cool you do technical writing! When I was younger and in college, I had one of my academic papers published in a University journal.

I'd love to get a life coach because I feel like I'm really bad at life and don't do things well. But again, I just don't have the money right now.
