Depression wins
When depressedalaskan is feeling: down, lonely, worthless, helpless, not worthy, sad, overwhelmed, lost, confused, mixed up, don't know what to do next, stuck in bed, can't be around others, can't seem to get anything done, nothing works right, low, depressed.

I am writing this thread to myself..

((((depressedalaskan)))) you are not any of these things. Depression is lying to you again. Fight back, you can do it. You have been there before. You have come out of this darkness. You can and will do it again. Please hang in there. Beat this ****.

Do not listen to depression.
Thanks for this!

Try not to let depression get you down. I fight every day and I have to remember to fight. Some times depression wins other days I do.

well said, but it is so often important for us to reach out to others when we're feeling this way - any task can be made easier with a little help

You don't have to write the thread to yourself, we;re always here to listen, it's great that you tell yourself these things, just know that you're RIGHT. Keep reaching out, keep fighting. (((((((((((((((alaskan)))))))))))))))))))

((((((( depressedalaskan )))))))

Some time ago I mentioned something called 'time-sharing' which is a very useful tool, but takes time to learn and you need to practice it. You kind of make a pact with the depression. You allow yourself to be depressed but only when you want it to!

Allow a time every day that suits you to just sit. Say, at 5pm you sit somewhere quiet and you allow your brain to have the low thoughts, feelings. Truly let the thoughts come and then at the end of the hour, you tell your depression that time is up. You must get up after the hour and use some sort of distraction (like cleaning, doing a puzzle, playing cards etc.)

You have to practice this in order for it to work for you. At first you might sit there for an hour and nothing happens, in that case, you arrange for the 'time-sharing' to occur the next day at the same time. If this works for you, you will find that you can get some control on the depression, not by fighting it but by giving it some time.

There are other mindfulness techniques I can go into which would help also, but will leave you with this for now!

Oh how right you are. If we let our guard down for just an instant all the dark places try to take hold.

But you are smart. You know it is just our disease attacking us from within. You know not to believe the lies.

Hang on my friend, you will make it through this battle too. You know from experience not to listen.

Alaskan, you are right.

Depression has come after you and has decided to take away happiness.

Depression doesn't know that you are stronger than it is...and that you can be happy, you ARE a good person.

HUGS

You truly are a good person (((((Alaskan))))) - I see your posts everywhere - always heart felt and sincere. When my physical illnesses drain my energy, my depression's grip gets stronger. Please fight on, Friend, for yourself and to give the rest of us hope when we're falling.
