Exercise. When I'm on my bike I'm too focused on the road to worry about my heart. By the time I go out, come home, get showered and eat, a good 2+ hours of the day have passed without so much pain. That little bit of time can make a lot of difference for me, especially when I'm in a bad spot (like now).

I believe there is research that supports that exercise stimulates endorphins, a natural "feel good" brain chemical.

Other things that have worked -- at least a bit, sometimes --

Getting off white flour and refined sugar to the greatest extent that I can, even if I can't resist totally. These products rob our system of Vitamin B complex vitamins, so I also step up my consumption of these. I've found that brewer's yeast flakes (not powder) that dissolve well in juice give me the greatest, most immediate pick-me-up. Some brewer's yeast is bitter, but the flakes I prefer, available in health good stores, are sweet and have a "yeasty" flavor that I like. Perhaps it compensates for that yeasty flavor in the white breads, pastries and cookies I adore. You also can get B vitamins in pill form.

I know a multi-vitamin that can help -- but costs about $30 month to take. PM me and I'll find a link to web sales of it.

Keep coming back to Psych Central.

Some counties/municipalities offer free or low cost counseling through their mental health centers. Counseling can be very helpful in dealing with depression. I suggest you check to se if there is something available in your area.

Welcome to the forums.

(((((((((((((((((((((((Lady)))))))))))))))))))) Hugs if ok.

First I want to welcome you to PC. You have come to the right place you support.

I know you have mentioned that you are without insurance and can not afford medications. Every county has a program, a sliding scale fee program for mental health services. Please call your local Social Services and they will direct you to the right place. Often times they will provide you with sample medications to get you through. In additional there are several options for reduced rates on prescriptions. There is something called www.needymeds.com. You may want to check that out. If your looking for something herbal, please go to your local nature store. The people that work there are very knowledgable about herbal remedies. St. John's Wart is something used for depression. Please make sure that you discuss this with the person at the store. They will point you in the right direction. Take care and please keep us posted.
